Reminds me of those Warner Bros. collectors sets we used to get about a decade ago with all the useless tat, but even those didn’t require the sale of a kidney or a second mortgage. This will sell out quickly though, my generation apparently has endlessly deep pockets when it comes to trying to recapture our “magical” childhoods.

Even if the movie had held up, that price would be insane. I'm also not a fan of Imprint and have felt ripped off at each one I have bought at regular price, so even if I suffered from nostalgia and felt the need to get it, $174 feels like WAY too big a risk to take on it.

I did buy some of their titles off of walmart.com (of all places) for about $7 each. That was definitely the right price point for them.

I'm slightly tempted by Priscilla, but that one has to get picked up by someone over here, right??

Imprint has always had surprisingly robust supplements— they doled out for TWO commentaries for A Countess from Hong Kong, including one from Jeffrey Vance who also did Criterion’s Chaplin tracks, plus new interviews with participants. For a movie no one but contrarians even pretends to like, buried in a limited edition box set (the previous Brando box). I don’t know how they can possibly afford it, even at their prices, but they’re doing it

MGM. The US release was Fox was because they handled MGM’s home video output from the late 00s up until the buyout.

This is true for English-friendly editions only. In Italy they for a while had 2-DVD set with the 2nd disc full of extras. I purchased it decades ago assuming there would be English subs, but appeared to be wrong. Now in Italy there is a BD with some extras. At this time you cannot make same mistake - the back of the package clearly says there are no English subs

Now confirmed as containing the nine surviving silent films - i.e. not including the sound version of Blackmail.

In other words, while there's a hefty overlap with StudioCanal's upcoming Hitchcock box, each has unique titles - The Pleasure Garden, The Lodger, Downhill and Easy Virtue in the case of the Imprint box, and the sound version of Blackmail, Juno and the Paycock, Murder!, The Skin Game, Rich and Strange and Number Seventeen in the StudioCanal box.

Titles common to both are The Ring, The Farmer's Wife, Champagne, The Manxman and the silent Blackmail, and in both cases the sources should be the BFI restorations, although I don't know about scores or commentaries in the Imprint set.

I’m curious to revisit it. Some very strong episodes, such as Steve de Jarnatt’s Roald Dahl adaptation “Man From the South” starring John Huston, and Tim Burton’s “The Jar” with Griffin Dunne and Paul Bartel (as an asshole director!)
