It was suggested by one of those questionable sites (I don’t remember which one) but more importantly for me is that there hasn’t been a UHD or any kind of newer restoration from the original Blu-ray release, which makes me believe that it has gone to Criterion. CC landing arguably a top three film of this century is a no brainer for them

I think anything by PTA is likely & his higher rated films are probably highest priority on the release schedule and I wouldn't be surprised if a PTA is one of the most likely (contemporary American) directors to receive a UHD box like Wes Anderson's at some point in the not too distant future.

Paramount is pretty lazy with their releases but given the film's popularity, I can't help but think they would've put it out by now if they had plans to do so. Warner even got out Boogie Nights. so I don't think it's unreasonable to think Criterion is putting out a PTA, especially since Paramount's other big 2007 movie already came from them

also with this being the July slate (which is usually big titles for the B&N sale month), it's definitely a more solid guess

2027 is the film’s 20th anniversary, so it could conceivably get a 4K restoration and theatrical rerelease followed by a UHD. I’m not holding my breath for it though.

Nothing Sacred is such a favorite of mine I bought both Kino BDs. The most recent one was a 4K restoration already, I think. Is this MomA restoration the same one or newer still? Unless Criterion do a UHD, I don't think I could convince myself buying a third Blu-Ray!

Me and My Gal would be a great and urgent (seeing as it's Fox) addition.

This new MoMA restoration is based on the original Technicolor separations in the Museum’s collection, and is the first to reflect the experimental color design of the film’s first 1937 release. Backing away from the harsh tones of early two-color Technicolor, cinematographer W. Howard Greene uses Technicolor’s new three-strip process to create softer, paler color washes, an intriguing effect that later reissues obscured by pumping up the hues to the standard Technicolor intensity.

Fandango at Home, formerly Vudu, has a Criterion bundle of Atom Egoyan films including The Adjuster, Calendar, Exotica, and The Sweet Hereafter. These are on the Criterion Channel as well, but it's interesting they own the digital rights.

I asked Justin LaLiberty on the Cinematographe thread a few months back if they planned on doing Who's That Knocking At My Door and he implied it was with another label so I assume Criterion has it.

They still send emails but no longer include PDFs that included the licensors in them. They just link to the product pages.

Interestingly enough, there was a comment in this thread from a couple days back from saying that they had heard about this Kubrick box as well. Seems like this isn't a very well kept secret lol.

Saw someone on Blue Sky speculate that the poster meant Megan Abbott not Meg Gardiner. If that is who they meant, then it is possible b le she was talking about Eyes Wide Shut not a Kubrick set. (For the record, I do suspect that a set of some kind is in the works, and not because of reddit.)

I’ve broken the news on quite a few Criterion releases as far back as fifteen years ago. No fanboy speculation. This is me interfacing with people working on on these projects or restorations or through a contact who knows people working on these things.

Guess I should mention the other set mentioned to me was a Bunuel set, but I remain more skeptical about that for whatever reason as they’ve released two films in close succession and released the smaller set in 2020.

Realized some dopes on Reddit are keeping tabs of what I said and it makes me not want to share news anymore!
