Nobody's mentioned Play It Again, Sam, so I will.

There is a UK blu of Bugsy, not criterion, sure, but lovely to enjoy this fun movie.

Robert Benton's Bad Company was mentioned, so I'll toss in his brilliant Nobody's Fool, too.

The Terrence Malick-scripted Deadhead Miles would be phenomenal. It seems like something Olive would poach, but they've never mentioned it on social media.

... which does me no good here in the States without a region-free player (and no spare funds to get one anytime soon). :-#

Here's some I haven't seen mentioned that I'd be interested in Criterion releasing

The Accused
Bang The Drum Slowly
Black Sunday
Children Of A Lesser God
Citizen's Band
Dead Again
The Duellists (the Shout Factory Blu-Ray is Out Of Print)
Heaven Can Wait
Murder On The Orient Express
Popeye
Real Life
Tucker: The Man and His Dream
The Warriors (a release that includes the original cut)

Paramount also has a whole bunch of other films that definitely wouldn't be right for Criterion, but I wish would get a Blu-Ray release. I wish Paramount would find another strong licensing partner since Olive also hasn't been putting them out.

Also, that release only features a Dolby Digital audio track, so I'd like to see someone release it with a lossless track.

Don't you think if Olive could license the most popular Paramount movies of the last 30-40 years that aren't available on Blu-ray, they'd do so? The issue's obviously Paramount, not the licensees.
FrauBlucher wrote:He said this [Bristol-Myers Squibb] deal makes it hard to deal with Paramount because they ask a lot for the licensing rights.

Oh, I wasn't really intending that as a slight against Olive. What I meant was that I wished Paramount would either find a partner they were willing to license the films to, or a partner who might be a better fit for the films I was thinking of (Good Burger, Orange County, & Rat Race aren't necessarily the type of films I imagine Olive releasing).

Olive's put out some lowbrow 80s and 90s movies, so I could actually see them releasing Good Burger, though it'd be a slightly left field move for them. Paramount may be more reluctant to part with more recent films even if they don't intend to to release them themselves in the near future.

With Shout releasing a handful of Paramount titles, hopefully that means they have opened their vault. Could that mean A Place in the Sun, Atlantic City and The Elephant Man finally get US bluray releases. Fingers crossed

Hoping for Paper Moon and Roman Holiday as well

Criterion has a long history of Paramount licenses. The big deal about the Shout deal is they’re only the second US label to be granted permission to films already released on disc by Paramount (Criterion being the first)

I'd be ecstatic to see never-on-home video titles like Gordon Parks' Leadbelly

What ever happened to Deep End? That was rumored to be coming from Criterion ten years ago, and it’s never been released. It feels over due for rediscovery and in alignment with cinema taste’s today.

Just tested it under Region A. The BFI Deep End Dual Format is in fact Region Free (or at least A and B compatible.)

This bears watching, as this could lead to another batch of Paramount titles coming to Criterion...

A question to Kino insider on the other forum....
Kino Insider - with Scream announcing 7 Paramount titles at the weekend (and presumably more to come), I was wondering now if you could say more about Paramount finally relenting and licencing out their higher profile titles (i.e., those which they previously released on DVD). Will Kino now try for the same kind of access, if they haven't already? Scream will cover much of the horror side of things sure, but a mammoth Kino deal including westerns, thrillers, war films, some John Wayne, action, a little more horror and much more besides is what we could really do with if the Paramount vaults are now wide open.
His answer...
Yes, they are and we've had discussions with them. They're now willing to license SOME of the "previously released on DVD" titles now.

KL Insider also stated they are less likely to pick up older comedies and dramas, as those don't sell as well as genre titles (Westerns, Action, Sci-Fi, Noir), which means titles like The Miracle of Morgan's Creek would likely need to come from Criterion or maybe Shout Factory through their Shout Select line.

That’s a shame, one of the few inarguably good things KL has been doing lately is releasing studio era films that are unlikely to be upgrade material from other labels. Now they too are capitulating to an audience that only wants genre works
