Michael, I didn't think we'd see it for another few years if at all.
I was at a Q&A with Guy Hamilton last year and I had the chance to ask him about The Partys Over

Does anyone have any idea wether this (and the other two Flipside releases) wil be Blu-Ray only? I can only find pre-orders for BR and not for DVD...

As far as I'm aware, the BFI has no plans to go Blu-ray only any time soon.

Apparently the next wave of Flipside discs is on Dual Format. Meaning both DVD and Blu-Ray in one package!

Sorry I was going by Hamilton's response to my question posted above in the video I linked to, and I'm sure I read about it elsewhere, but I can't find it anymore so perhaps not.
Regardless I'm looking forward to this release a lot - will it be the full uncensored cut?

If you live in London you might be interested to know that the film is getting a very rare big-screen airing as part of cult film festival Cine-Excess, at the Odeon Covent Garden on Friday (30 April) at 11pm. Details

The screening will be introduced by writer and genre film authority Julian Petley, who will then host a Q&A with the film's producer Anthony Perry. And some of the BFI's Flipside team will also be there, so if you do make the event, feel free to grab them for a chat.

Interesting and engaging film, a snapshot of its time, and thematically not particularly shocking or offensive IMHO, the portrayal of immoral, dissatisfied and dissaffected youth seeming to incur the the Censor's dislike, rather than the hints at possible necrophilia... The voicover imposed before the titles in the theatrical cut, is reminiscent of that added to Antonioni's I VINTI, warning of the dangers of these irredeemable delinquents, moral retributes, dangers to society etc... For in truth the characters of THE PARTY'S OVER live in a moral vacuum, a state of nihilistic pleasure seeking existence, anticipating the materialistic existentialism of the Swinging Sixties... The young Oliver Reed's performance as Moise is a precursor to his Fagan in OLIVER...

Ive sent my copy back unopened this sticker on the case is a nightmare and until I can be sure they have stopped putting them on the case I will be buying no more BFI dual format editions.

As the BFI indicated the sticker merely needs a bit of patience and a roll of sellotape to daub it off, and it'll be on the outside of the cellophane on future releases and pressings apparently...

You've already been told in another thread that the only affected editions are
The Party's Over and
The Pleasure Girls and that all other Dual Format editions (including the corrected
Institute Benjamenta, which I assume you've now received) will have the sticker on the outside of the shrinkwrapping - as was originally planned from the outset.
But I suppose it bears repeating.

The sort of nightmare that can be defeated by Sellotape, lighter fluid or WD40...

The BFI (and MichaelB) have made it very clear that this was a one-off
error never to be repeated. The corrected Institute Benjamenta had the sticker on the outside of the cellophane, which is how things'll be in future.

I know its only those affected I sent it back hoping the next batch would not have the sticker.
I have not received a new copy of Institute Benjamenta Ive spoken to HMV online twice since I sent the bad copy back and still get told they know nothing about a recall, I will be phoning once more before I order it from moviemail and write off the £12.99 from HMV.
