I'd like to go but I'm more poor than a neorealist kid.

Jesus, Caccia tragica finally restored- \:D/ Giuseppe de Santis is one of the best Italian filmmakers, totally unknown even for Italians (exept Bitter rice), but sadly, as Juan Antonio Bardem in my land, he made all the films that Communist Party suggested him to make in his/their last years.

Caccia tragica is a masterpiece, but Rome ore 11 is even better.

When will the Italians restore Zampa's best films such as Anni difficili ?

As far as I know, the restored edition was only released in this limited edition boxset, also includind Quel fantasma di mio marito (a lost & found film): Briguglio Films - Anni Difficili + Quel fantasma di mio marito - Edizione Speciale Limitata (2 DVD)

It should have english and french subs, but I don't own it.

Amazed that Rossellini's War Trilogy won against that competition. I'm looking forward to finally getting my hands on watchable copies of Roma città aperta, Paisa and Germania anno zero and all, but heavily pictureboxed releases shouldn't be championed in 2010.

To watch Noi vivi (We the living) in its two parts and the Zampa's films seems paradise.

David, do you have a job related to curating or restoring classic films, or have you just gone there to see the films and enjoy the fantastic food?

Ah, I see.

The Walsh retrospective last year was fantastic, with lots of his early films that are impossible to find on home video. Though I only saw a couple of the Grémillons, his Gueule d'amour (Lady Killer in English) was a total peach, like a cross between Sternberg's Morocco and La bête humaine. I don't know if you've seen it, but it's sort of a deterministic love story in which Gabin works his way from the foreign legion in Northern Africa to Paris alternately screwing and slapping women while keeping impeccably cool all the time. Great stuff.

As for my self, I am a student of film history at the moment, though I have worked previously with programming for festivals and film societies. Like you plan to do next year, I will be traveling solely for my own pleasure this year.

BTW, This year will be my tenth attending Ritrovato and I would just like to add that I have gotten to know and talk to quite a few people from all over the world in many different fields, with the sole common trait among them that they’re all lovers of films from the last century. I can only offer it my highest recommendation.

Also, of course, the city of Bologna is fantastic as well, even tough one usually spends most of ones time there in a darkened cinema.

Just to barge in on your conversation briefly, I am booked in for every day of the Gremfest here in Edinburgh starting tomorrow including the 'Symposium' of experts. If anything special pops up i'll give a nod. Particularly looking forward to the restored Gardiens.

God, the Cinema Ritrovato festival always looks so awesome. Is it generally open to public and easy to get seats once you buy accreditation? Do you have to pay any additional fees on top of that? I might have to head over next year and then spend a week over on the coast in Le marche. Such an easy place to get to for us Brits and I've spent a lovely afternoon in part of the town before. I need to go back.

Yes, once you have got your badge you can easily watch everything.

Yes the festival is open to the public. The cost of accreditation is 80 euro, while students pay 35. This gives access to all screenings in the four regular venues. It also gives access to special reserved seats for the outdoor night screenings in the piazza.

In general it’s always easy to get a seat. Though some of the screenings in the two smallest venues at the cinematheque can sometimes get full.

I should also add that those who wish to donate money for the obviously very worthy cause of supporting the festival can pay extra to receive a tiered price special service that includes extra dinners, DVDs, posters, guided tours etcetera.
