13 Washington Square (1928)
Directed by Melville W. Brown
Starring Jean Hersholt, Alice Joyce and Zasu Pitts
Presented in a 4K restoration from Universal Pictures, 13 Washington Square is a romantic comedy in which a meddling aristocratic mother tries to stop her son from eloping with a grocer’s daughter. So Mrs. De Peyster (Alice Joyce, Stella Dallas) dons a working class disguise and goes on a mission with her maid (an uproarious Zasu Pitts, Ruggles of Red Gap) to track down the lovers and block their illicit vows. But instead she crosses paths with a charismatic thief named Pyecroft (Jean Hersholt, Heidi) who has plans to rob De Peyster’s home. All of them end up at her house on 13 Washington Square where their lies hilariously come to light.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923)
Directed by Wallace Worsley
Starring Lon Chaney
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) is a million-dollar super-production of Victor Hugo’s famous novel, presented in a 4K restoration by Universal Pictures. This epic adaptation recreated the Paris of 1482 complete with its own Notre Dame, and it established Lon Chaney as a monstrously sympathetic superstar. Chaney stars as Quasimodo, the mocked and vilified bell-ringer of Notre Dame who selflessly protects the star-crossed street performer Esmerelda (Patsy Ruth Miller), who is in an ill-fated love affair with the dashing Captain Phoebus (Norman Kerry). Chaney created the legendary makeup himself, and gave a performance of enormous sensitivity and pathos, launching him into Hollywood immortality.
Special Features:
*Audio commentary by film critic Farran Smith Nehme
*Booklet essay by film historian Michael A. Blake
*"Life in Hollywood" newsreel
*Lon Chaney home movie footage
*Music by Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum & Laura Karpman
*Slideshow of production correspondence
*Slideshow of production stills

Isn't it the movie responsible for Tallulah's infamous line, "I'm going out to Hollywood to fuck that divine Gary Cooper."FrauBlucher wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 6:14 pmComing in October.... Devil and the Deep (1932) Gary Cooper and Tallulah Bankhead, Director- Marion Gering

I just saw the cover for this (the one on the left) for the very first time. I don't remember this being the movie poster - was this newly done for KL's BD? Hilarious improvement.

The Plainsman (1936)
• Audio Commentary by Film Critic and Author Simon Abrams
• Theatrical Trailer
• Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
• Optional English Subtitles
From Cecil B. DeMille, the iconic director of The Sign of the Cross, Union Pacific, Reap the Wild Wind, Unconquered and The Ten Commandments, comes this classic western starring screen great Gary Cooper (Beau Geste, High Noon) as legendary gunman Wild Bill Hickok. Teaming up with his lover Calamity Jane (Jean Arthur, A Foreign Affair, The More the Merrier), as well as Buffalo Bill Cody (James Ellison, The Undying Monster), Hickok helps to pacify the frontier in a period of immense change for the Old West. At the same time, behind the scenes, we see the political decisions undertaken by President Lincoln (Frank McGlynn Sr., Captain Blood) that gradually shape America in the period after the Civil War. Charles Bickford (The Big Country) and Anthony Quinn (The Ox-Bow Incident) round out the superb cast in this sweeping epic packed with thrilling action, powerful drama and spectacular set pieces.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics Acquisitions
Kino have confirmed a new ~40 title deal with MGM, but most interestingly say it includes 12 4K titles. In addition to that, they will be upgrading Fistful of Dollars and a Few Dollars More. Guess this year's releases have done well for them! Hope they go back to Universal and lock up a similarly large amount of titles.

The breakdown of the MGM deal by decade:
1950s - 12
1960s - 9
1970s - 9
1980s - 15
1990s - 3
1929 x 1
1930s x 24
1940s x 23
1950s x 39
1960s x 11
1970s x 7
1980s x 5
1990s x 4
2000s x 1
2010s x 1
I also see that Kino have dropped their plans to release Ophuls' Liebelei, which is a darn shame.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics Acquisitions
Worth noting that of the 12 newly licensed 4K UHD titles 2 will be SDR and 10 will be DolbyVision.
I am only assuming this, but it would also make sense if the Dollars films are also SDR titles, if GB&U is anything to go by.
All told, that's 18 more MGM licensed 4K UHDs coming from Kino - 4 from the deal before this one, 12 newly licensed, and the 2 Dollars films.

They're probably the best chance we've got for those 4K restorations of Annie Hall and Manhattan to be released on UHD

Has anyone heard anything about further progress on Rich and Strange and Number Seventeen? They were scheduled a couple of years ago but never appeared.
