Pale Blue Dot was an infinitely better title

This guy's done a brilliant job with Fargo, something that had no right to be as great as it's been in all three of its iterations. And this looks great. So - great!

From Rolling Stone:
The film is loosely based on the 2007 tabloid saga of Lisa Nowak, who famously drove from Houston to Orlando, wearing an adult diaper, to kidnap her ex-boyfriend’s new lover.
Okay, I'm 1000% in

Someone on reddit claimed to have seen it already. Says it's very good and follows the Nowak story closely. But alas, no diapers.

Pale Blue Dot was also the working title of Jason Reitman's Men, Women, & Children, when it was filming here in Austin, and also didn't stick with it.

I find it difficult not to prefer Lucy in the Sky just because it means the movie will surely pull in more box office based on a more eye-catching title to the general filmgoing population. I'm sure the actress who just had a movie called Vox Lux bomb will appreciate it

Or maybe casual moviegoers will go see it during opening weekend thinking it's a Beatles musical, then realize it's an artsy drama/sci-fi movie, and the ensuing negative word-of-mouth will kill it instantly!

Maybe studios are iffy about the word "pale" in the title. Two of the definitions of the word are "deficient in color or intensity of color" and "not bright or brilliant". They practically read like negative movie reviews on their own.

What was Sagan thinking not naming this after a Beatles song?

If only we lived in a world where naming a film after that Pavement album would sell tickets

I mean, Portman's problem in this is when she's grounded...

Noah Hawley’s Lucy in the Sky is getting panned by critics, despite some love for Portman’s performance.

Would have been Certified Fresh if it was still called Pale Blue Dot

Apart from David Chase, are there any show runners who directed well-received movies? I seem to remember one that Matthew Weiner did basically fall off the face of the earth with no buzz around it whatsoever.

Michael Mann would seem a more obvious choice than David Chase.

I mean someone who was a show-runner first, and more someone from the recent ages of television where shows took much more cinematic steps. Miami Vice is a good early indicator of this, but Mann had already directed both television and features.

Well, that takes away Norman Lear as well I guess. Recently, JJ Abrams and Joss Wheadon seem to have done well for themselves.

If he has another couple of opportunities on the horizon, I would still have some confidence that Hawley could pull off something interesting. That said, it's a minor miracle that Fargo is as compelling as it is, considering how much it trades in pastiche of the Coens' films. Even though I was enjoying it in the moment, the bowling alley scene in Season 3 makes me cringe just thinking about it.
