WALL•E

Image

A high-water mark of digital animation, this prescient vision of a dystopian future is packaged within a dazzling pop-science-fiction love story, making for an urgent fable for our troubled millennium. It's the twenty-ninth century, and humans have long since fled Earth for outer space, leaving WALL•E, the last functioning trash-compacting robot, to go about the work of cleaning up a pollution-choked planet, one piece of garbage at a time. When he meets EVE, a fellow automaton sent to detect plant life, the pair are launched on an intergalactic quest to return humanity to Earth. Transporting us simultaneously back to cinema's silent origins and forward light-years into the future, WALL•E is a soaring ode to the power of love and art to heal a dying world.

Antoine Doinel wrote: Tue Jun 19, 2007 1:30 pm Pixar just keeps rolling out great concepts and their next film looks like it'll be no exception. If only every studio cared this much about their films.

Here's the teaser.
It played before Ratatouille, and I really liked the way the company presents itself as a creative collective, even giving a shout-out to "the late Joe Ranft." Actually makes them seem kinda different.

So far this is my most anticipated movie for 2008. The plot synopsis I read (which only covered the first third) sounded amazing, and this teaser was really great as well.

I wish there was a little more information available. Before the release, my friends and I want to watch the science-fiction films that may have impacted Andrew Stanton's development of the story. It's about time I found an excuse to see Silent Running, anyway.

I don't know what to tell you guys, but I saw the WALL*E presentation by Andrew Stanton at Comicon. This film, aesthetically, is so far beyond anything Disney or PIXAR have attempted in so long... I just don't even know how they're going to convince parents to see it. A nearly silent Sci-Fi throwback to 2001: A Space Oddyssey that takes a harsh, head on approach to environmentalism and out-of-control commercialism.

Ben Burtt was also on hand to do a live sound effects presentation that he did in coordination with a great number of stills (environments like Earth & space) and a/v demos of all the robot characters. They even had a extraordinary clip that was about two sequences in length with a film burning effect when it was over.

The entire show was so far beyond my expectations, when I already had so many based off the rumors that had leaked earlier this year. This may also be the movie I'm looking forward to the most next year.

Sounds great, Drew. Thanks for the report. Pixar continually amazes me, and this just sounds wonderful.

I don't want to start a whole new thread for this film, but Leslie Iwerks' (granddaughter of Ub) new documentary The Pixar Story seems to have slipped under the radar. An unheralded theatrical roll-out began earlier this month. It's only playing for three days in each city. You can see the screening schedule at the official site.

It's a super short clip version of what they showed at ComiCon, except for the last bit when he flies through space on the ship. They didn't show that.

The animation is impressive but that robot was annoying for all ninety seconds he was in the trailer, the prospect of ninety minutes with him makes me queasy.

I don't know. I love Ratatouille but the more of these trailers I watch the less charming Wall-E seems.

I watched it with the sound off, so I probably missed half of the fun, but this looks really good. Hopefully they'll move on into even more adult territory after this (helloooo Philip Glass).

I'm in tears I'm so happy seeing this trailer. This may be Pixar's finest film yet. And was that John Williams doing the score, my God!!!

Only music I recognized was Etta James and the Great Escape theme. Thomas Newman is doing the score.
