Finally. I audibly gasped at this one being a 4K release too. Releases like this remind me that I really need to upgrade to an HDR-compatible TV already.
I look forward to revisiting this beautiful film. It’s been too long since I last watched it.

Hype Williams essay is a great touch. lots of creative thinking here, but do wish Harmony had done a full commentary - the Spring Breakers one is awesome
I drove through Nashville in 2021 and went by a lot of these locations. a retrospective tour would've been cool so viewers can see that despite Nashville's obscene gentrification, much of the areas this was shot in look the exact same...

I just love that this film managed to culturally impact the mainstream enough that it provided the one single memorable moment from any of those otherwise terrible
X Factor talent shows, when after a performance of a cover version of Roy Orbison's Crying an incensed Louis Walsh refuses to believe that Gummo is a real movie and not something that Simon Cowell just made up! I would love it if Criterion added some of those quotes to their advertising blurb for the film:
"What is the movie? Who was in It? Where did it come from?" - Louis Walsh
"It's not movies you watch at home. Gummo.. is a movie" - Simon Cowell

I like how the cover uses the Aggro Drift aesthetic

I don’t know when he started experimenting with this colorized aesthetic, but it goes back to at least Duck Duck

Surely it was an economical/useage rights issue-based choice, a la
Paris Is Burning, but that's entertainment/branding/I never liked the title card font, either!
