I have never actually seen the film adaptation of this, so looking forward to this release, though have read the book and it features one of King's more interesting crossover moments between otherwise unconnected stories that suggests that everything is taking place in the same world. I will spoiler tag this as it deals with the fate of one of the characters:

Where the Sheriff Bannerman character, who utilises Johnny Smith's psychic visions of the future to help catch a serial killer in the middle section of The Dead Zone, turns up again here to immediately be killed off as the expendable victim of the rabies-raddled St. Bernard! If only he could have seen his horrible fate ahead of time!

The director of this, Lewis Teague, had quite a run of animal-themed horror films in the early 80s with the John Sayles scripted Alligator, then Cujo, then the other Stephen King adaptation, Cat's Eye, which actually features the titular feline as the good animal trying to save a little girl (played by another E.T. alumni, Drew Barrymore) from having her soul sucked out by little goblin creatures, from what I can recall.

Then of course he did Navy SEALS in 1990, but I don't think that was about actual seals...

I liked this one, I'd be keen to re-watch. It's shot by Barry Sonnenfeld, who makes his presence felt in effective ways, if I remember correctly.
