Ah, I think my mind simply leapt to Benny's Video when I saw the word "televised".warren oates wrote:Kino still has the rights to those theatrical features and at least to one TV film of The Castle. But I think we're talking specifically about Haneke's early TV work. Aside from The Castle and The Rebellion, almost all of the TV work comes before his first feature film The Seventh Continent. All of the TV stuff is interesting. And you can certainly see how he came out of the gate so strongly with this first theatrical feature, as he'd had years of patient painstaking practice in theater and TV films beforehand.

So you're the one I have to thank for reviving my least favourite forum tradition!Matt wrote:Also, just so everybody knows, this thread will be locked as soon as the new releases are announced and a new thread opened up for the December releases. We used to do this a long time ago and I decided to revive it again since so many people seem interested in making lists of potential releases every month. Something to cling to in desperate times, I suppose...
Okay. . . THANKS!

At least the fake covers forum gave us Swimminghorses to use as a whipping boy, though.domino harvey wrote:Worse than the fake Criterion Covers trend? How quickly we forget

Here's that thread. It might look a little different from the rest of the threads here, and you might need a different login (it's a long story, not very interesting), but knock yourself out!Moe Dickstein wrote:That sounds really fun actually, making your own Criterion designs

I liked the fake covers thread. I didn't like most of the covers.

How about this: Bring it back, but if you submit a bad design, you're banned for life.

Re: Guess the November 2013 Releases
I was just foolin to see what Domino would say. I actually did some fake covers like 10 years ago when I first got photoshop as a goof before it became a thing. I know I did 1776 and a frogs cover of Magnolia, and strangely enough, I did one of It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World too - thinking that was one that would never ever happen...Matt wrote:Here's that thread. We all experimented with fake Criterion covers in our college days. It's okay. Doesn't make you a bad person.
That seems like more of an Olive thing to be honest.
I thought Safe was re-released, but in checking Amazon, I see that it is Poison, but neither dvd is going for extreme amounts like they did several years ago (& I drooled at the prospect of selling my copies). A Criterion twofer would be nice. I think Kino is a more likely candidate than Olive.Matt wrote:Maybe, but I can't imagine why Criterion would want to turn down what is still Haynes' best and still most relevant film which features one of the greatest, most underrated central performances of the 1990s. It's already got an excellent commentary ready to go.

I guess I'm alone in feeling that the fake cover thread was actually one of the more inspired threads? It's certainly a better use of one's time than simply cutting & pasting existing monstrosities (many of which aren't really that monstrous) found on the web into a thread & playing the Rush Limbaugh of visual design....though I can't say I've ever participated (in either).Moe Dickstein wrote:That sounds really fun actually, making your own Criterion designs

Unfortunately, the Sony MOD line is the most likely candidate.Lowry_Sam wrote:I thought Safe was re-released, but in checking Amazon, I see that it is Poison, but neither dvd is going for extreme amounts like they did several years ago (& I drooled at the prospect of selling my copies). Just to be clear, don't look for something from Olive if it isn't Paramount or Republic. Sony has deals with Criterion, Twilight Time, Image and Mill Creek

Okay, titles are starting to roll in, so I'm closing up shop. Thanks for playing. Your winners this round are Jgh8xxx and domino harvey with two titles apiece.
