The video is now off air for me... Anyone else have the same problem?

Kim didn't do much bean-spilling this year.

Triplets of Belleville is a Sony Pictures Classic title, so that seems like they might have new access to it.Jeff wrote:Can anyone think of a library that Criterion might be able to access with one Criterion-worthy animated title in it?

Yeah, the Cronenbergs and Red River were already pretty well known at this point.Jeff wrote:Kim didn't do much bean-spilling this year.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do the different versions amount to? Alternate cuts?med wrote:Both versions, too.The Narrator Returns wrote:Red River was pretty much confirmed.

IFC with the new Gondry is the most obvious choice, though I'd kill for some Canadian films or Petrov.Jeff wrote:Can anyone think of a library that Criterion might be able to access with one Criterion-worthy animated title in it?

Well, I am happy to know that there have been talks surrounding Ken Russell's The Devils, and that WB's supposed willingness to license out The Emigrants and The New World proves we may be seeing more films from the studio.

I think we got more of what titles are unlikely in the near future than what is coming.

Kind of underwhelming. Kim barely said anything and wasn't very forthcoming. I think Safe was the only real news.

So I came in when he was talking about Napoleon; what did they do for the first 50 minutes? And what was said about Children of Paradise/Subpar materials?
Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
The one thing I did find interesting was Peter's comment about Lynch and Eraserhead. Considering the film was hinted at in the New Year's drawing last year, I assumed that the master was near complete. Obviously, it never made it out in 2013, but now that he claims they are trying to foster the relationship with Lynch on his short films, it seems as though this film may be on the backburner for quite a while...

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
so based on the context of the talk preceding the mention of Bicycle Thieves new 4k harvest, I'm guessing that'll be a november release ala Fanny and Alexander. (the context being that some editions are definitive and really only in need of new work on the transfer, not additional special features).
The 1966, Here's Your Life, seems to be the only inadvertent slip. Disappointed they shot down Kim just 'saying' some titles. :-p
I really hope WB lets them do Emigrants/New Land, considering how much he talked about how they address the multiple versions of Napoleon or Europa 51 or Gold Rush, I imagine they'd put both the English and Swedish versions of both films out, and WB would never do that, opting only for the dubbed versions (the dubs are superb, though and worthy of inclusion).
Also he did say that there was more Oshima (and he mentioned someone else but I didn't catch the name) coming this year, just not the films that are part of that theatre group.

Which sucks if true, being the ATG ones are the best that they have.movielocke wrote:Also he did say that there was more Oshima coming this year, just not the films that are part of that theatre group.

Nothing. The question steered into "why put so much work into your restorations" instead of discussing their two big misfiresjindianajonz wrote:So I came in when he was talking about Napoleon; what did they do for the first 50 minutes? And what was said about Children of Paradise/Subpar materials?

I wish they would work with Warner Brothers to acquire some of Warner's public domain titles like House on Haunted Hill; Man With The Golden Arm; etc. There's not much Warner can do with those titles. They can't release DVRs of PD films on the archive and ask for $20+ a copy. Criterion's branding has worked well in the past for these kind of hard to market titles.

Did they mention any specific ATG titles?SpiderBaby wrote:Terayama/ATG question went through, but Becker didn't single him out, instead talked ATG as a whole. Hope it happens.

No, after being asked about Terayama and Oshima, he acted like names wasn't mentioned and just explained to the crowd what ATG is, and pretty much no plans (though they obviously have at least Oshima's ATG films, being on Hulu). I wanted to know about Terayama out of this, and didn't get it. His ATG films has a blu-ray out in Japan, no subs. Really would like to see them released with some English subs. Hopefully a great company like MoC could do it then.OnOnt wrote:Did they mention any specific ATG titles?SpiderBaby wrote:Terayama/ATG question went through, but Becker didn't single him out, instead talked ATG as a whole. That's too bad, I'd be interested in any ATG title. Kuroki, Jissoji, Terayama and Yoshida especially.
