Also I've been holding off on the WCF sets hoping for Blu only boxes.
Why would they ever do that if they didn't when they released Vol. 2, three years after otherwise abandoning dual format?

Other than Zatoichi, I sold all my dual format box sets to free up shelf space. I avoided buying fantastic mr Fox until last November because I kept hoping for a blu only release, but I finally picked it up because the BN I happened to be at didn’t have the new release title I was looking for at the time.

Well, yes, that was annoying wasn't it? I feel like they only did that to be consistent with the first set. Anyway, it's a longshot, but I have plenty of other stuff to watch while I wait. Individual releases would be nice too, but probably that's even more of a longshot.

They shoulda called it DUEL format, because it was a slap in the face, like how you initiate a duel
They shoulda called it DYEL format, because of how much heavier the packages were

Because it's not settled until Criterion gives out reparations

Is there a place where people go to whine about Arrow dual format releases?

Most of their UK releases have actually been BD-only for quite some time now.

And because of it ending we had to suffer with almost no booklets and skimpier extras.
Seems a bit of a simplification, no ?
I thought they literally stated this would happen, at least with the booklets. I could be misremembering, though.

Since this is an evergreen discussion (unfortunately), we should probably just keep it going. Who knows what could be down the pike, and I'm sure the re-release updates are useful to somebody

Yup. There are still more Dual Formats that need to meet their demise.

I miss getting a free copy of a perfectly fine DVD with the purchase of a Criterion Bluray. Getting the free DVDs for films such as Persona and Tokyo Story were a special treat.

I asked the question here back then, but never got an answer, but that's something I heard at the time. True, however, I never got a definitive answer, but maybe that's not the case and it's indeed a DF fallout.
Not sure about the extras, though, but I always felt it was simply more varying than in the past but we were still having some loaded releases.

A Hard Day's Night
Frances Ha
A Brief History of Time
Breaking The Waves
Il Sorpasso
King of the Hill
Love Streams
Persona
Riot in Cell Block 11
La grande bellezza
The Long Day Closes
Y Tu Mama Tambien

A Hard Day's Night appeared in a BD-only version (in a standard Scanavo case) as part of Criterion's "Rock Box" set back in 2015, although it's not available as a separate purchase. The Dual Format release contains an 80-page booklet that is, obviously, not included in the "Rock Box" version.

Worth noting that A Hard Day's Night, Breaking the Waves, Il sorpasso, King of the Hill, Persona, The Great Beauty, and Y tu mama tambien are also digipaks. So far, the only dual format re-releases to remain digipaks for the Blu-ray are Fantastic Mr. Fox and Red River.

Also, The Essential Jacques Demy - though, the UK release is Blu-ray only.

Jules and Jim is still dual-format as well, if I’m not mistaken. I’ve been holding off on that one forever, not because I’m against the “free” dvds, but because I’ve been wanting to see the digipack go standard case, like The Night of the Hunter did. Like Stevie Wonder sings it, “Everybody’s got a thing...” :-"

Hard Day's Night, A
Hearts and Minds
Il Sorpasso
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion

Persona will be getting bluray only release March 30th.... No DVD listed (yet)
Persona is already available for purchase through Criterion's website, but only Blu-ray listed.
