Re: MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
OK, so about "The Good The Bad The Ugly" 4K remastered blu-ray mono track:
I have this US 3 disc "Man With No Name Trilogy"
I checked the English 5.1 track and the English mono track, and they are clearly DIFFERENT.
The mono track is NOT a mixdown of the surround track.
Some examples
the 5 minute mark where "The Ugly" is introduced, the gunshots and the shattering window sounds.
the 12 minute mark where "The Bad" makes his first kill.
The explosion of the bridge
The sound effects in those are similar sounding to the 2-disc US DVD editions Italian mono track.
So unless someone can correct me, the trilogy set HAS the correct English mono track.

Re: MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
When did you buy it? It's possible that the first pressing contained the downmix and later pressings included the corrected disc. (The initial set DEFINITELY had the downmix.)
On other boards, I've seen some people note that on the restored mono, Eli Wallach's voice sounds deeper in the Extended Version scenes, and there is speculation that Chace lowered the pitch. That's actually not the case. When the 5.1 mix was made, the low and high ends were cut off the Extended Version scenes, thinking that this would make the new material blend better with the old. For the new mono restoration, the Extended Version scenes were totally rebuilt from scratch, with the original ADR mixed with the mono music and effects track for those scenes. During the 2014 mono restoration, it was decided not to degrade the audio as severely as the 2003 mix, so what viewers are hearing now in the Extended Versions scenes is Wallach's natural voice as it was recorded with significantly LESS processing than before.

Re: MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
I bought my boxset on July 6, 2014, to be exact.
When you say "Initial Set", do you mean the 2010 boxset with this artwork?
Or do you mean the one I posted earlier?
I bought the new boxset a month after release date.

Re: MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
I was referring to the set that came out May of 2014 (the first photo you posted) with the 4K restoration. People started complaining online about the incorrect mono when it first streeted, so Fox must have have gotten the corrected disc out fairly quickly and just never made a public statement.

This corrected, standalone MGM release in the US with the mono mix: is it region free or region "A" locked?

A 20th Anniversary edition of The Usual Suspects just went up for pre-order. Hopefully it has everything from the special edition DVD (and the easter eggs as well).

Probably nothing more than a repackage of the existing disc so that there's a new SKU for cross promotion with the new Star Wars later in the year.manicsounds wrote:Because we needed a new edition?

Re: MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
It has Digital HD codes!!!
Also being repackaged with Digital HD -
MGM is busy licensing to other studios, so it doesn't have time to make new releases of their own. More than you can say about other studios...

Don't know if this is the right forum for this, but I thought I would mention that The Cotton Club is getting a director's cut treatment with the cut footage reinstated for an upcoming Blu-ray release. Whether the Blu is coming from MGM or another company or the release date for this was announced I don't know.

Do we know if it is still owned by MGM, or is this another FFC film that reverted to American Zoetrope? If it's the latter the BD should be coming from Lionsgate.AfterTheRain wrote:Don't know if this is the right forum for this, but I thought I would mention that The Cotton Club is getting a director's cut treatment with the cut footage reinstated for an upcoming Blu-ray release. MGM still holds rights, but probably made some sort of deal with Coppola to allow him to make this version.captveg wrote:Do we know if it is still owned by MGM, or is this another FCC film that reverted to American Zoetrope? Poltergeist III (1988) on 5/19/25, as double feature with the already-released Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986). Nothing like remakes to get older films in a series out.

Sergio Leone Anthology Blu-ray set is now listed for a May 05, 2015 US release. I am guessing a repackaging.

Re: MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
I am not sure if this is the right place for it, but I would really appreciate some insight. I recently placed an order for the Target exclusive digibook packaging of West Side Story Blu-ray packaging (3-discs edition), which was originally released in Nov, 2011. I remember distinctively that there was some trouble with the blu-ray discs and MGM came out with a replacement discs scheme. Now, I can't remember what was the trouble exactly and whether I will still be able to get the replacement discs. Can somebody help me with this? Thanks a million, in advance.

Re: MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
Embarrassingly for them, they didn't fix anything. They changed one erroneous color change to another erroneous color change.

So, I guess I shouldn't care much for a replacement disc! Thanks guys.

Poltergeist III will also have an individual release now instead of just being on a double feature release.captveg wrote:Poltergeist III (1988) on 5/19/25, as double feature with the already-released Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986). Nothing like remakes to get older films in a series out.

Re: MGM Catalog Titles on Blu
There were a couple of these up on FoxConnect when they had the sale, though I can't recall the other titles. I just remember the red cases
