Is that Stoltzing someone?

I think the overall tone of the project was changed, and Weir rewrote it to his satisfaction. Still, a remarkable “what if?”

Also a 4K of The Core on March 14th and a 4K of Red Eye on March 21st.
Red Eye is a movie I remember thinking was quite fun at the time but maybe haven’t thought about once in the almost two decades since; kind of curious to see what I’d think now, especially given how much I like the leads

I saw it for the first time in years not too long ago. I still really enjoy the first third or so and Cillian Murphy’s performance. Craven managed some effective scares within the limitations imposed by its PG-13 rating
I just revisited this and liked it a lot more than when it came out. Murphy is one of the most reliable actors, but he's kind-of on autopilot here in maybe his worst and thinnest role to date. It's McAdams who elevates this into greatness via a pleasurable catharsis not found in set pieces but the comfort-food of surrogate human behavior. She gives an organic performance through a character who reacts -both large and small- how a person actually might if placed into her situation. Reminds me of Mary Elizabeth Winstead in 10 Cloverfield Lane, only not nearly as good or inventive as that masterpiece (plus everything here falls into well-trodden and tiresome charades once off the plane, while Trachtenberg soars after his heroine escapes into a third act), but Craven is just churning out a tight B-thriller based on a meshed confinement/nick-of-time gimmick. He knows how to craft suspense well, but without the right lead passengers would nod off on his flight

Also, I love how the great Brian Cox shows up to do just two things: hype Dr. Phil and then kick ass. I like imagine he had a nice laugh reading the jarring 'evolution' of his character in the script and signed on purely as a self-indulgent joke

4K UHD for The Truman Show is coming in July.

I would love to see footage from the test shoot that Andrew Niccol undertook with Gary Oldman. It displeased Paramount so much that they removed him and hired Peter Weir to direct the film
Oldman as Truman? Or the Ed Harris/formerly Dennis Hopper character?

4K re-release for The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance coming in March, though it's not being presented as a part of the Paramount Presents line for whatever reason.

Nice - I hope this trend of going back to vintage movie posters (or at least a good approximation of them) will continue. I've never been a fan of the way reissues over the past 15 years have stylized the artwork, it just makes them really dated in the wrong way - a studio-era classic shouldn't have a cover that looks like it was Photoshopped yesterday.

It's an awful artwork, modern-generic template. Whatever though, I'm just curious to finally see this new restoration, which seems to have had a complicated story.

MifuneFan on the other forum shared caps of the restoration as it played on The Film Foundation’s website. Colors are warmer and more saturated but look good. No Ritrovata botch job visible even though they were involved. Do you have any info about the restoration and why it was so complicated?

What I heard is that there was a lot of back and forth between Ritrovata and Paramount until everyone was happy (especially at Paramount), and I’ve been hearing that since 2019 (though I don’t know when everyone settled).

Will the accompanying BD of the 4K upgrade utilize the new Ritrovata restoration? I've seen as yet no specific mention of that and am hoping we don't have here a situation (e.g., the 4K Rio Bravo) in which the accompanying BD is a just a reissue of the film's original release in blu-ray. Perhaps someone on the Forum can enlighten me, and thanks.

I think the Blu-ray has some new special feature(s), but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will use the new transfer.

It usually does, as studios either recycle old discs or do whole new ones (in particular to include new extras).

True, but as far as i know, there hasn't been any confirmation that the Blu-ray will use the new transfer.

In other news, since there is no thread for the label, Big Top Pee Wee will be coming to UHD later this year from Graveface Pictures a sublabel of Terror Vision.

And restored mono. I’m especially happy about that, the mixes on the prior discs sounded way too clean

It appears Paramount is releasing The Italian Job on UHD in the UK on June 3rd. (Kino has already released it in the US.)
