I'm not generally sensitive to non-motivated light sources, but this feels excessive.

Looks like the most exciting daytime soap opera ever.

Imagine De Palma objecting so much over this cover sharing a credit with Scarface he demanded an Alan Smithee equivalent to say "from the director of REDACTED"

I very much respect Ben Kingsley's choice to be an Odd Squad villain from decades before Odd Squad existed! Also two lightning bolt scars is obviously one better than Harry Potter.

That kid's soul-less doppelgänger is clearly going to be the scariest thing encountered in the spooky house.

What's your beef? That's the original (and great!) poster-art, right? Only reservation is that it excludes the expletive-laden tag-line.

Yes, unless I'm missing some minuscule detail (sorry), that's the only image I've ever seen associated with the film

Same, and even if I didn’t like it, it’s way better than the normal posters featuring a dude giving what must be the ugliest scream. The bar ain’t high on this title

It's better than the generic covers it's received since DVD but all I can think of is Skeletor and the Masters of the Universe when I look at it.

I don’t think that’s a qualifier for “worst” either, but there should be a binding clause that cover art for Poltergeist must include an image of the TV

I would argue that what makes this particularly terrible is not so much the image nor the lack of TV, but rather all the clear tinkering that was done with color and sharpness (here's a screen shot from the actual film for reference). This cover looks like a 3-strip Technicolor film from the 1920s.

I can see why they boosted colors and brightness, the original would have been too dark for a cover. I think what they are going for is to make this resemble the mothership cover of anniversary release of Close Encounters, to feature the light-flooded/awe-struck look of Spielberg productions of the period.

Maybe this thread should be more accurately titled "DVD covers I don't like (with reasons)"
Most of the ones posted on here are not nearly bad enough to qualify as "worst ever".

Perhaps they thought that focusing on Craig T. Nelson jean-clad butt would bring the audiences flocking in droves?

EDIT: Will it be embossed in that area?

Looks like The Boss's butt on Kevin Bacon's body with Will Ferrell's head in a JJ Abrams Joint

After my eyes adjusted to the searing colour scheme there appears to be something strange going on with that body too. It is as if it turns into a CGI body half-way down.
