I love the "fairy tale upside down" reading he's going with. This sounds amazing.senseabove wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 12:18 pmPablo Larraín to direct Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana

Can't be any worse then the last movie about her.

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
I haven't seen his first few films, but with his last couple Pablo Larraín is also only getting better. I also love Kristen Stewart's lowkey internalized perfs as of late, so it's got all the ingredients to be one of my most anticipated movies on the horizon.

Re: Spencer (Pablo Larraín, 202X)
Stewart was recently interviewed about taking on the role of Diana, including working tirelessly with a dialect coach to get the accent right, and burning through biographies (2 1/2 so far). This is also slated to start shooting early 2021.

...and what seems to also be new information softly planted in these articles without drawing attention to itself, Jonny Greenwood will be scoring the film!

And Claire Mathon will be shooting it.

Stewart —> Larrain —> Greenwood —> Mathon is an almost unfair escalation of my expectations

Scottish actress Amy Manson cast in the surprising role of

Anne Boleyn. Evidently Timothy Spall and Sally Field will also be playing long-dead historical figures rather than people Diana knew personally

I wasn't aware Sally Field had been cast, only Sally Hawkins... did someone flub in that article or is this new info?

Re: Spencer (Pablo Larraín, 202X)
Presumably they mean Sally Hawkins, sorry, as they refer to her as a "national treasure" (presumably meaning British) in the same sentence

First reactions positive, compared to the subjective whirlwind of relentless tension in Krisha and Shiva Baby, and (expectedly) "a spiritual successor" to Jackie

Wow, great poster. I look forward to it being replaced by a boring photo of Stewart’s face for the Blu-ray

Between this and Annette, it’s been a great year for posters, if nothing else.

Re: Spencer (Pablo Larraín, 2021)
I'm cautiously optimistic about this, having liked Jackie quite a bit and generally willing to get on board with Kristen Stewart, but I really, really wish this were not being released smack in the middle of The Crown's own highly acclaimed Princess Diana arc, the first season of which has still not even finished collecting its awards. I'm bracing for backlash against this for being unnecessary ("enough about Princess Di already") or just general confusion (my parents have seen promotional materials for the movie and now think the new season of The Crown is coming out this fall, etc.). It doesn't help that the movie appears to replicate not only the look of the sets, actors, costumes--which is unfortunate but inevitable--but also seems to contain almost identical scenes/shots (such as posing for the family photo and Diana dancing through the palace, both of which are given much significance in the TV series). My fear is that even if the movie ends up being great, which hopefully it will be, these kinds of inevitable comparisons and resemblances can only hurt its reception.
