Rules of the City is unlisted on Radiance's Raro Letterboxd page, so I wasn't necessarily expecting that. Looks like we can now sell the old Raro Volume 1 set betewen Arrow and Radiance.

Thought exactly the same. Seems like an obvious clue but definitely the kind of title they'd release (especially after L'amour fou, and the Rivette set back at Arrow).

Also worth noting Radiance tweeted about Godard yesterday, and when they've done such a thing in the past it has lead to announcements of their titles. Could they have UK rights for King Lear - or alternatively something through StudioCanal, perhaps Made in U.S.A.?

I just had a look at their previous email clues and they tend to be on the literal side ("Next month, love!" = Je t'aime, je t'aime; "What happened? We'll be purring one month later than expected..." = The Cat; "Next month we'll be exterminating" = Buñuel), so seems like a very good chance your assumption is correct. Pretty exciting if so!

Though I don't think that they've ever done that for a figure whose work they haven't released or didn't have plans to (it was the first 'hint' for Truffaut).

There's no shortage of Godard's not on Blu-Ray in the UK - it could be any of his 80s/90s/00s films. There are restorations of In Praise of Love and Notre Musique that I don't think have had physical releases anywhere yet.

Aren't we also still waiting for something to fit the Sight & Sound poll clue? Histoire(s) du cinema has been OOP for a while

their Wajda box was the war films though, so Man of Iron wouldn't have fit. Piotr Szulkin aside, I don't see Radiance releasing more central European cinema, though I may be wrong. I think The Eel is likely, but it would surely have undergone a restoration we might've heard about by now

I think it's really likely the Palme d'or title is one of these:

Calling it now but the time travel movie is probably Alain Resnais’ Je T’Aime, Je T’Aime.

to me this seems incredibly likely. Resnais is actually pretty absent in the UK as others have noted, and I don't see any other time travel title that makes sense, unless something super obscure is what it is.

glad we already have two of these come to fruition! I would still love to see Radiance release some of those other Palme d'Or winners, but The Eel is something I've wanted to see for ages, and I'm always in for more Resnais.

rapta is right, they posted Truffaut, Altman, and Bunuel before releasing any of their films, and now have put out multiple films by all three. Fran tends not to tweet about filmmakers or actors he hasn't released from Radiance, so I think it's a pretty good key there will be Godard at some point. I tend to think it'll be something 70s or 80s, maybe the UK of King Lear but there's plenty of possibilities

exactly why I think it'll be the Rivette. I guessed Je t'aime, Je t'aime the second I saw last month's clue, knowing we had the "time travel" clue and it ended up being right, so I tend to think it's the same here.

anyway, I think 2025 for Radiance is off to a fantastic start. what a gift this label really is. Fran did address some of the comments about basically it being the same countries every month on the other forum. he has discussed this elsewhere and it makes sense - mining the Japanese, Italian, and French studios is likely way easier to do than digging in Romanian or Greek licensors who may have never dealt with any English-language attention before. I do really hope as the label is more successful, we see more branching out. I've been pleased with the digs into Sweden, Germany, and Spain, all "major" film countries that don't get as much love compared to the others. the Chinese language picks have been incredible (though I'm still surprised we haven't seen Taiwan crop up yet!), and all in all I think things are in the right direction. MifuneFan did post a graph over there showing that 75% of Radiance releases so far have been from Japan, Italy, France, or the US, and I genuinely do think that's a testament to being what's available. and what's probably more insane is that no label was interested in grabbing a lot of these - The Eel being a US/UK release meaning Criterion never once attempted to get the rights to it is wild. I do look forward to his promises that we'll see more risks, and after Sam and John from Indicator both talking about the "trust in the label" a lot of us have with Indicator, I really think that extends to Radiance too. here's to more exciting releases!

I'd assume "signs of background research" before any other interpretation.

This Letterboxd stalking reminds me of one of the most mental threads I've ever read on Blu-ray.com (which is saying something), in which people were quite seriously anticipating upcoming Arrow releases on the basis of IMDB plot summaries I'd written in the mid-1990s when I had absolutely no idea that most waking hours two decades later would be spent in home video production. I also wasn't involved in any way with Arrow acquisitions, something I'd have been happy to confirm if anyone had had the nous to ask me.

Yes, as it turns out that's exactly what came to light; that same person logged Last Year at Marienbad and The War is Over shortly after I made my post (clearly doing research for an extra on Radiance's upcoming Je t'aime, je t'aime disc). I later mentioned this in the dedicated thread for the Radiance release after domino implied there could be more Resnais coming from them, and I thought they might want to temper those expectations...

It’s a very well known and gigantic labor of love that has never been released on disc except in a mediocre DVD which would make it a good fit for Radiance (and Fran certainly loves French films so there’s that too).

Could be. I figured he might be interested in Laloux (either Gandahar or Timemasters, though Criterion have plans for the latter and might have also got UK rights) or Bakshi (Fritz the Cat or Heavy Traffic, both with MGM). Eureka obviously have interest in those two though so they may have stiff competition.

I also thought of Svankmajer, though that’s obviously a huge undertaking and might prove too expensive and time consuming. Never say never though!

I remember the Deaf Crocodile guys saying they wanted to license some of his works but Svankmajer said he was content with the releases on his website so unless someone can convince him, it doesn’t look like a possibility.

I never got an acknowledgement for these suggestions and didn't expect to, but it might pique Fran's interest if the title is not already in production or on their acquisitions list.

I got a response but it unfortunately stated that it’s not in their slate. Maybe it could be The Tale of the Fox because if I remember correctly that only ever released on disc in France and it’s by a well established animation god (though I’ll admit I’m hoping for this purely for the chance of getting The Cameraman’s Revenge in HD).

I’d steal for a Deaf Crocodile release as they’re probably the only other worthy label to do it justice besides maybe Eureka.
