Zack and Miri Make a Porno (Kevin Smith, 2008)
Here's the unfunny teaser.

Ugh... painful. The characters seem less human than Juno. Seth Rogen's Kevin Smith impression is embarrassing - why didn't Smith just play the role himself instead of casting a younger, poor man's version? Elizabeth Banks is the new Jessica Biel - absolutely no charisma or appeal what so ever. Let's just hope its a bad teaser that was thrown together at the last minute.

The film is having trouble securing an R-rating.

He peaked with Clerks. Chasing Amy wasn't too bad, either, but Kevin shoulda gone back to the comic book shop for good awhile back. Of course, once I hit the 'submit' button, I'm ensuring that Smith will beat me up in effigy at the end of his next movie. Yay, I'll be famous!sonicstooge wrote:Does anyone even care that Kevin Smith is making another movie? He obviously hit his peak with Jersey Girl.

I hated, hated, hated Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and figured he had it. I held off seeing Jersey Girl for the longest time, but found a used copy for $3 and bought it just for the extra features where he visited some local landmarks near me. Turns out Jersey Girl wasn't as bad as they say. I thought it was a cute little film, and I like George Carlin as the dad. Maybe I'm a sap.
I must say, I enjoyed Clerks II very much. I thought he really hit that one out of the park. This new thing.....well, there's not much to go on so far, but that teaser was embarrassingly unfunny. Meh. The trailer would have to be pretty damn good for me to want to spend money to see it.

Yeah, but she changes back at the end. If the movie was more realistic, true love would have cured her of her gayness forever.Orphic Lycidas wrote:What are you talking about? If we had a rating system that worked, all Kevin Smith movies would be rated NA-17, meaning no one OVER 17 would be admitted and filmmaker and audience could share a couple of hours of quality time while we are elsewhere in the multiplex watching high class adult entertainment such as "The Love Guru".Antoine Doinel wrote:The film is having trouble securing an R-rating.

The film gets the commercial kiss of death. Appeal pending.

Yawn. The studio will milk this "controversy" for a couple of weeks (or months it seems, since I posted a similar story back in June), get some nice free publicity out of it, make the cuts the MPAA wants and then put all that stuff back in "The Edition They Didn't Want You To See" version. Whatever.

The photo in that article told me all I need to see. Seth Rogen dresses up as Kevin Smith to fulfill the latter's fanboy fantasy of sleeping with a woman who's too good-looking to be in his league. How original.Tom Hagen wrote:The film gets the commercial kiss of death. Appeal pending.
I know it's been repeated ad nauseam on these boards, but jesus, Kevin Smith is a hack.

The merits of the current rating system are certainly questionable, but the fact that Kevin Smith continues to push the envelope and then act shocked and surprised that explicit sexual material will earn him an NC-17 doesn't speak well to his deductive reasoning skills. He's like the little kid that won't stop touching the hot stove--both because he doesn't learn his lesson, and because he makes films like a child with burnt hands.
