Korean hallyu star Park Yong-ha, age 32, yet another in a disturbingly long line of Korean suicides. Park first came to fame as one of the leads in the TV megahit Winter Sonata.

Cinematographer Alan Hume, who spent much of his career doing professional jobs of work for various Carry Ons and James Bonds, but his work on Runaway Train shows he was capable of more than that given the chance.

If you want a film connection, his work has been documented in several Alexander Kluge television programmes.

Sure, but Schlingensief made quite a few films of his own in the 80s and early 90s, too.

A great talent, who showed so much growth with each succeeding film that I can hardly imagine what sort of treasures we've lost with his passing at the terrible age of 47.

Oh no, this is terribly sad news, and so young! Paranoia Agent is a monumental piece of film making. A wonderful artist and i'm sure he will be eternally influential on both anime and cinema alike.

I can hardly believe it. Was he sick, have a disease? I want to see a silver lining in the work he left us, but 47 is too young by anyone's standards.

There's too little info for now. I wonder what will happen of the film he was working on...

I've seen one of them (Terror 2000) and it's, uh, something. He worked a lot with Udo Kier, and if this one is anything to go by, they were a perfect fit.

Kon`s final message (as reported by animenewsnetwork):

" May 18 of this year, an unforgettable day.
My wife and I received the following prognosis from a cardiologist
at the Musashino Red Cross Hospital:

- The pancreatic cancer is terminal and has metastasized to the
bone. You have at most a half year left.-

When I conveyed my concerns for Yume-Miru Kikai to Mr. Maruyama,
he said, "It's fine. Don't worry, we'll do whatever it takes."

I cried.

I cried aloud.

With feelings of gratitude for all that is good in this world, I
put down my pen.

Well, I'll be leaving now.

Satoshi Kon"

Jeez. Poor guy. Well, he left behind a body of beautiful work, which is more than most people can say.
