This is even funnier because I just got my first COVID vaccine a moment ago and am watching for symptoms. Reality testing is not going well.

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
Referring back to the 2021 hints image, "MAST" clearly refers to the Nico Mastorakis film Death Has Blue Eyes, and "BRUHD" is Battle Royale UHD. "Clapboard", of course, is Clapboard Jungle. I don't know what the last item on 4. stands for, but I believe month 5.'s clue for "SS" refers to Switchblade Sisters, meaning that title was pushed forward a month. The no-show "DUHD" from month 3. also clearly refers to Donnie Darko UHD, coming in April.

There's a Spanish blu for Drugstore Cowboy but yeah, I'm a bit puzzled on that one especially with the opioid epidemic making headlines for a while now. Great movie and a solid depiction of one sector of addict life. I chucked my VHS about a year ago- held onto that one for way longer than most of 'em!

My copy of REC contains a postcard for Children of the Corn. As this was a UK release, I assume this means a UK edition of the film is in the works.

It could also be a UHD release since there was a "C UHD" on the list.

New clue on Arrow’s Twitter seems to be for Yasuzo Masamura’s Giants and Toys. Glad to know Black Test Car sold well enough to get this release. This is my personal favorite Massmura film.

A nice edition of Giants and Toys would be great, but I'm hoping against hope for a box set also including Afraid to Die and Moju.

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
The list of clues (which I will be refering to as "Da List" from now on) has an item entitled "G&T" scheduled for June, so its likely that this stands for Giants and Toys and the title has been moved forward a month.

I'd LOVE to finally have Manji in HD and with a commentary from a Tanizaki Junichiro scholar. Hell, release it with its remakes.

Referring back to Da List, and the May slate from there...
"GHOSTW" is obviously A Ghost Waits. The "OTE" from April is clearly Over the Edge, having been delayed a month, and the "G&T" from June is clearly Giants and Toys, released a month early. "SS" was clearly meant for Switchblade Sisters, releasing now in April. The other three items - "WWS", "REB BOXSET", and "DEHH" - did not manifest.

And June promises:
'LM Box Set' - Lukas Moodysson? Luc Moullet?
'VT Box Set' - Hard to tell, potentially a Von Trier box set? Or Ann Hui's Vietnam Trilogy?
'SS' - Another SS. It could be the Shinji Somai title that we know is coming.
'T UHD'

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
It's unlikely to be Malle, as all of his bigger titles are tied up with Artificial Eye in the UK and Criterion in the US. They'd only really be able to get Le voleur and Viva Maria for the UK, unless Paramount licenced out Atlantic City and Pretty Baby.therewillbeblus wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 6:19 pmEither of those would be a dream, but I could also see Louis Malle or Lucrecia Martel
Martel's certainly possible though.
It's surprising how Moodysson's films have dropped off the radar since We Are the Best!. He was one of the most visible contemporary directors in the high street 'world cinema' section when I was growing up in the 00s and, yet, his films have now been OOP in the UK for a full decade.
By contrast, I'm not sure any of Moullet's films have ever had a commercial release here (and I'm struggling to find any evidence of a screening, but I'm sure one must have happened). A box set would be relatively straightforward to put together, but seeing as he owns his films himself I don't think they've benefitted from a restoration that they surely would have if owned by one of the bigger French studios. It would be nice to see them restored and released again within his lifetime.

And I've noticed that there's an MD later down the last that we can hope means Michel Deville!

One more clue down: "REB BOXSET" is a Bill Rebane boxset that's been announced for a surprise May release.

So basically William Grefe, but with snow instead of swamp? Does anyone like these films? (I'm asking to be inquisitive, not dismissive.)

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
Severin has had success with these type of releases thus far (Al Adamson, Andy Milligan) and Vinegar Syndrome regularly releases these type of regional oddities from the 70’s and 80’s. I would say it carries a similar appeal to Criterion’s big boxsets, only for a different market. If you love cheap horror/exploitation these sets give you a good overview of the different trends at different times.
Definitely a YMMV sort-of scenario since obviously there are various production limitations in these films and they are expensive.

Martel would be fantastic, but isn't The Holy Girl with Warners? It might just be North America, but I wasn't sure.

I guess the Weird Wisconsin - Bill Rebane set is the REB boxset (though WWS could work too !).What A Disgrace wrote:The other three items - "WWS", "REB BOXSET", and "DEHH" - did not manifest.
