I will say that being reminded of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies puts me in mind of WB’s old DVD model of star sets anchored by a couple titles everyone wants and then filled in with titles no one asked for but which could on occasion surprise (as I initially saw it courtesy of the first Doris Day box). The standard WA Blu model treats both of these type of films equally, though, so it sometimes feels a bit more confounding. Funnily enough, waiting long enough for the new multipacks of older titles replicates the “deal” of the older box sets much better, if one has patience and can handle many titles not making that transition

Ecstatic for Skyscraper Souls & Marked Woman. Nice to get an upgrade for Little Shop Of Horrors too. Hope we get a Warner sale before the holiday season.

Five episodes of Maverick will contain original ads, including eight commercials Buster Keaton made for Jeep

Also, the description for Bundle of Joy notes that the film it is a remake of, Bachelor Mother, will also be coming to Blu from the Archives in the near future

I think that will also mark the last of the regular TCM Christmas schedulers to make it to Blu, so one can at least recreate the experience at home if and when TCM turns into something else or dissolves completely

I liked His Kind of Woman a lot more on a revisit, especially Vincent Price's all-timer perf, as I've always dreamed of how Vincent Price would play Vincent Price in real life! A lot of people seem to praise the first half over the second, but while the second act goes on far too long (is this the longest noir ever made?) it also contains inventive action set pieces that build tremendous momentum mixed with generous doses of Price's comedic wit, and I found myself preferring it to the laborious first act set-up. Russell could've been cut out of this completely (she practically is by Price in the climax, rendering her role superfluous) and we'd get a leaner, meaner noir as a result. But whatever, the movie still rips, especially considering the troubled production i.e. Hughes' meddling involvement

It’s def up there if not. Off the top of my head, these all gotta be about as long: Postman Always Rings Twice, I Want to Live!, Odd Man Out, Mildred Pierce, Dead Ringer, the Snake Pit, Leave Her to Heaven, and the Strange Love of Martha Ivers (and A Place in the Sun if you go down that road)

Agree on Price, obviously. That whole extended detour in the back end was, to Hughes’ credit, his idea and you can see how starkly it contrasts with the particularly violent Mitchum fight on the ship

I tried to watch my old US Warner DVD of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies a couple of months ago, but it failed at the layer change, so probably a case of disk rot. Having never seen the film before I am very glad that this WAC blu ray of the film gives me an opportunity to finish it without having to rebuy a DVD.

BTW, The older I get the more I enjoy Doris Day. Both her films and music. Are there any other old codgers here who feel the same way?
