Speaking as someone who (much to his own disbelief) won the main award in 2019, I feel that the DVD Awards palmares is often surprising, but I think this may have something to do with the splendidly heterogeneous background of the Jury members. While I can occasionally disagree with some of their choices, I always find the extended finalists list very stimulating, also because it is not entirely focused on U.S. and British labels.

Yes, but in my experience you just have to send a package with a few of your favorite releases. Really not a resource consuming effort.

I think this was actually a co-edition, with Cecchi Gori mainly handling distribution. They do that for several Italian labels, but the film's rights and materials are owned by Minerva.

It's still something that you have to proactively do, and many labels clearly don't bother. I think Powerhouse has only done it once, in the year that scored them two nominations - I know for a fact that they didn't do it before that year, and I didn't see any of my colleagues mention that it was being done this year either.

Something that I believe will be of interest to the community here - a panel from this year's Ritrovato about HDR and Classic Films

The Edward Everett Horton set was one of the projects that Ben Model did a Kickstarter campaign to do the scores for, so it is nice to see it getting some official recognition as well.

I often find that such Video Awards shortlists have odd inclusions, stuff that definitely aren't particularly of notice (except possibly the movies themselves - but that's not what these awards are for !), but this year, it looks pretty neat (except possibly a few odd choices that I wouldn't have selected, like Meurtre à Montmartre or actually most of Criterion's entries).

This is the first year that I've not purchased a single one of the nominees.

I like this year's list--it's truly international and eclectic, and there are a few films I haven't heard of before. I'm glad that they included one of the Diskino/WCL restored Chinese films, even if they are extremely limited editions and difficult to track down.

I'm more interested in seeing the full lineup for this year's Ritrovato festival. The announced last year's films more than a month before the festival started, so I'm hoping we see something this week.

There are a lot of things to like here, and which I'd deem being representative of all the good work these labels are doing : Get Carter, the 3 Carlotta sets, the WCP 4 set, El Vampiro Negro & the Juleen Compton double-bill, Cinema's First Nasty Women, the Mekas set, The Quiet Man, the Vojtech Jasný double bill, Una vita difficile (which comes with 6 Dino Risi shorts) and the Doctor Who and von Trotta sets.
