Re: Twilight Time
Not sure if this is in reference to this, but Mr Lime took a veiled shot at TT. He replied to a post by saying something to the effect, you can always purchase it later if you want. I guess Redman didn't like that.

Re: Twilight Time
I saw Mister Lime's posts before they were deleted, they were actually well-reasoned and more or less in line with this board's-- he said something along the lines of there being no sense to a film like the Last Detail being limited edition, and that TT's model is exploitative of customers and not aligned with the market. The idiot posters at the Blu-Ray forums then attacked Mister Lime for deigning to slag another label and I couldn't believe I found myself in the position of taking Mister Lime's side, but he was in the right

Re: Twilight Time
I can absolutely see why Mr Lime might be incensed, though - a title like The Last Detail released through Kino would probably be almost exactly the same, but at a third of the cost. As it is, it seems an inevitability to get a more substantial upgrade from one of the UK labels but TT is banking on people being impatient until that point. It's not like Nicholas and Alexandra or something that will probably never get another release anywhere in the world.
(I'm really rather concerned by the idea that TT was able to cash in some kind of chips with Sony for handing back Christine sooner than their license expired - what if they traded it for A Matter of Life and Death or some other major catalog title?)

Re: Twilight Time
I've said this before but in a world where Kino and Olive are licensing MGM and Fox titles en masse for reasonable prices, it makes less sense than ever to support TT's prices and useless in-house extras (not to mention their abominable covers)

Well, I wish them all the luck in the world and hope they sell out the remainder of their Woody Allen titles quickly so I can resell my copies at a considerable markup in relatively short order.

Re: Twilight Time
Grover Crisp would never give A Matter of Life and Death to TT over Criterion. Anyway, I'm sure this is on Criterion's crowded release calendar.Ribs wrote:(I'm really rather concerned by the idea that TT was able to cash in some kind of chips with Sony for handing back Christine sooner than their license expired - what if they traded it for A Matter of Life and Death or some other major catalog title?)
We are approaching year 7 of Redman's dire doomsday prediction about physical media that was his premise to create TT's awful biz plan, in which was to take advantage of blu ray enthusiasts. What he didn't see was the growth of the boutique labels here and overseas in which case has out performed TT in quantity and quality at more than reasonable prices.

Re: Twilight Time
I've been hearing alot about Mauro Bolognini, so I'll definitely be picking up Gran Bollito. May also pick up Keys of the Kingdom, The Barefoot Contessa and I Want To Live! ...though I'd much rather pick up Signal One editions, if they should happen!

I Want to Live! and the Barefoot Contessa are classics I've been waiting on forever from TT, though I'm worried about the aspect ratio on the latter

Re: Twilight Time
Stardust Memories is the only automatic buy for me. I may get The Boston Strangler, too. Its an interesting film even if it's a total misrepresentation of the real case.
The others are ones I need to see to decide on, which at this point I'm quite far behind on for TT titles ever since they increased to 5-6 a month.

Re: Twilight Time
For those who haven't seen it, I Want to Live! has a legitimate claim on being the most beautifully-shot film of all time-- if ever a film merited a Blu-ray, it's this one

Re: Twilight Time
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll certainly check out the film now. This Susan Hayward appears to have completely slipped under my radar.

Re: Twilight Time
I can safely second that recommendation for I Want to Live! A gorgeous film that was so much better and more emotionally engaging than I ever expected from the premise. It should really be better known.

Can anyone speak as to the quality of this release by Umbrella?Adam Grikepelis wrote:For those that missed out, Umbrella in Australia have Body Double forthcoming on Blu-Ray. Looks to include all the DVD extras, though there's no region coding or transfer info.

It's the one I watched, I didn't think it looked bad but it's apparently a different transfer than the one TT used. It's also available direct and cheap from US Amazon

"MGM/UA have advised us they are losing the rights to the movie version of David Mamet's fantastic play, AMERICAN BUFFALO. As a result Twilight Time's Blu-ray will be OUT OF PRINT at midnight on September 12th, 2016. As an incentive for last-minute dawdlers who do not yet have this title in their collection, the price is reduced to $14.95 at http://www.twilighttimemovies.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - now you have no excuses! Already posted last week (see previous page)—"Don't delay as it's gone in 4 weeks!" Now it's down to 18 days, and I look forward to more hard sell between now and the fateful midnight hour of 9/12:
Hey, dawdlers! This will be OUT OF PRINT in 2 weeks! Now you have no excuses!
Hey, dawdlers! This will be OUT OF PRINT in 3 days! Now you have no excuses! None!
Hey, last-second dawdlers! This will be OUT OF PRINT in 2 seconds! Now you have no excuses! None! Why didn't you add this to your collection before literally the last second? Your loss.
