So long as the transfer's good I'll live with the shitty filter on the cover art. I guess.

I've seen the movie through the Arrow BD. It's using a typical decade old MGM HD master. It's certainly not the worst I've seen from the bunch, but it's rather mediocre. Notably, it wobbles a lot.

SAE announced that for the February pre-orders (Kiss of Death, Interiors, Chilly Scenes of Winter, and Edge of Eternity) they will offer a $5 discount for the first week, reducing them to $24.95+shipping through Saturday starting when they go on sale tomorrow.

Whoa: Interiors has a commentary track from Kirgo and Redman. How in the world did they get Allen to sign off on that? Did they just forget to tell him? I can't imagine he would okay it, even if they are such world famous Film Historians

Wasn't Interiors not initially part of TT's Allen license? Maybe they negotiated a weird contract.

Maybe they reveal so little about him and the movie and he was OK with it ?

Just cancelled the commentary on Interiors today "at the request of the studio."

Redman's arrogance was rewarded with a slapdown. Love it.

I was only aware of the fact that Allen didn't want commentaries on DVD/BD releases of his films. Is there anything else to the story? I'm not familiar with Redman, etc.

Allen doesn't like extras and his contracts give him extraordinary control over his home releases. Literally everyone knows this, so Redman was trying to pull a fast one

This is why the Arrow boxes opted for hefty hardback books - although only after checking that he was happy with those. (Thankfully, he was.)

And yes, I can confirm first hand that everything has to be personally approved by his office: disc and book contents, artwork, you name it. He signed an extraordinarily generous contract with United Artists in 1971 whose provisions span all the films that he made for UA and Orion and remain in force to this day.

Given how well book sales are doing, you'd think there'd be another quick reissue just to cash in.

Any knowledge on why the books were approved and video supplements are not? I haven't purchased any of the boxsets, so I don't know what's in the books. Does he not like his films disected and analyzed?

I've no idea. But we knew upfront that there was no chance of putting anything on the discs apart from the trailer (something recently reinforced by the Twilight Time Interiors story), and we wanted to add something, so we developed volume 1 on spec, sent it off for approval, crossed our fingers tightly...

...and he said yes. Or someone in his office did, which amounts to the same thing.

Is there something similar with Spielberg?

I think Spielberg should do a commentary for all of Allen's films, and Allen for Spielberg's.

Allen doesn't like "talking over the movie", period. Witness this encounter with the NY Times who were doing a series on directors discussing favourite movies - there's no way he wants a commentary track running over his films because he wants people only to watch them (which is ironic considering that he never watches his own films again once the editing is over)

Commentaries aren't as on many new releases anymore I've noticed.
