Never heard of the "Just Jared" site before this, so after reading your post and first seeing the page come up, I thought for a moment the news was that Jared Fogle had died from choking on a Subway sandwich.

Wouldn't this be more ironic if he'd starred in the 2 Slow 2 Cautious films?

That's awful news, Walker pretty much built a career on vehicle action films, not just the Fast & Furious ones but also John Dahl's Roadkill, aka Joy Ride.

I have not seen any of the Fast/Furious films, but Joy Ride is pretty fantastic, and it sounds like he was one of the few genuinely nice guys in the business.

He was also pretty good in slightly vehicular Running Scared even if I am completely uncertain if it is a good movie. What an awful, unfortunate way to go.

One of the rare cases where it can truly be said that someone "died like they lived"! Apparently the seventh Fast and Furious film is already shooting, I wonder what the insurance company dictates in a situation like this?

I really liked Joy Ride when I was in high school, and Running Scared is truly of the love-it or hate-it variety. I loved it the one time that I saw it, but I understand why so many hated it. It's a full-on assault on the senses with lots of morally questionable scenes that can either be completely repellant or exhilarating, depending on your disposition. Of the Fast and Furious films, I've only seen the first three (of which Walker only appeared in the first two), but I thought 2 Fast 2 Furious was actually pretty fun in a bone-headed, deliriously campy way. Paul Walker was not one of the great young thespians of the last 15 years, but he was a genuinely likeable presence and seemed to get as much of a kick out of his movies as his fans did.

That seemed to make him the secret weapon of the Fast and the Furious films, or really any of the films he starred in, as the slightly callow 'audience relatable' character that the more vibrant and larger than life actors such as Vin Diesel could not be (but that let Diesel's character become more heroic/mythic in compensation), and that became an identification built up over the series. The first Fast and the Furious in particular uses him as the gateway to build up the mystique of the whole dangerously forbidden-yet-exciting street racing culture that he is infiltrating.

It was very similar to the way that Point Break used Keanu Reeves to infiltrate the world of surfing and its criminal sub-element, and in a way the first Fast and the Furious film follows Point Break's template pretty closely.

I'm jealous now and wish I could! That trailer makes the film look fascinating and I bet it is going to be quite the experience to see it on the big screen!

Very very memorable performance in The Master, a shame that he went at that age when it seemed like his career was really on the upswing after years of being a character actor. Don't know a whole lot about the guy, but sad that he passed. Shooting that particular scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman must have been an absolute blast, considering how hilarious the take we saw in the film was.

Welch was also terrific in Rubicon, as the stuffy (but ultimately sympathetic) Ivy League type among the spies.

A shame, I love his monologue in Synecdoche, New York & was always happy to see him pop up in things like Lincoln & The Master (after I would figure out that the part wasn't being played by Michael Hitchcock or Thomas Lennon).

I remember him from like a million appearances on all three "Law & Order" shows, specifically a crazy eye surgeon in a "Criminal Intent" episode. :(

I have a similar issue with many of my Polish friends' antipathy towards Lech Wałęsa. Granted, he turned out to be a pretty terrible president (and I had the luxury of not having to live through said presidency), and certain comments he's made in recent years can be politely described as "unfortunate" (although "elderly working-class Catholic Pole is a homophobe" isn't exactly a shocking revelation) but to me that doesn't negate his colossal achievement any more than Nelson Mandela's colourful private life negates his.
