I believe I spoke about it when the film was new, but The Pleasure of Being Robbed shows that Josh Safdie has full confidence and talent to work on his own. It’s very different than the high anxiety works of the last two films, but is still onenof my favorite debut works of the last two decades. I sort of expected this seeing at Benny Safdie hasn’t stopped working and has his Nathan Fielder show on the way.

Agreed on Pleasure of Being Robbed, which also makes a good case for Josh being an even better actor than his brother, not that I'd want him to get sidelined making that his day job too.

I do usually amuse myself by imagining Malory Towers as a period-set version of The Neon Demon, so its not too much of a stretch. As long as they keep the 'returning from an adventure to a table spread with a giant feast' scene at the end of any Famous Five adaptation, it will be fine.

This news slipped by me, but Trey Edward Shults' next film will be co-written, co-scored by, and starring The Weeknd, based on an original idea of his. A lot of great talent is involved, including Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, and Blonde DP Chayse Irvin, but if The Idol is any indication of how Weeknd can soil the talent around him, I'm cautiously pessimistic.

Funnily enough, Shults' last feature was the most Sam Levinson-like project that Sam Levinson hasn't been involved in. I wish Weeknd was more into Adam McKay or something.. now that's a collab I'd love to see - Who knows, maybe two tonally-off, messy, hollow, 'look at me'-desperate artists would make a right

Not quite sure where to put this, Xavier Dolan is confirming his retirement from directing films at 34.

I'll still maintain that his first five films were excellent, but it was a precipitous decline thereafter.

I think Lynne Ramsay has more unrealized projects than completed ones, so I’m happy to see she has a new one finished and another (the one with Phoenix) that has wrapped shooting.

Huh, I'd think that would be referring to his upcoming project AND, which stars Stone and was shot by Robbie Ryan, which we've known about for some time now - but that was shot in New Orleans last year (and we've got footage of Stone dancing from December to prove it!) In a recent interview, Lanthimos said that he and Stone had made "four movies together," so maybe he isn't counting the short film Bleat (which was shot in Greece) and happened to find the time to make three films with Stone and two with Ryan back to back?

I find this similar to strip mall/close mall owners that benefit from having tax write-offs from not having tenants fill in empty spots. These companies wrote these tax loopholes through lobbying and the only ones that benefit is themselves. Never in my life have I a seen a company shut down completed movies without any of them seeing the light of day. This is their 3rd or 4th film this year so far.

Coyote vs Acme and the Scoob sequel seem to have good receptions with the few people that saw it, so it's mind numbing that they will not be seen.

It has happened on very rare occasions. Paramount did it with a film they test screened called Young Lust around 1984, and 20th Century Fox did with Hung Up (1973), a French film that I believe didn’t even open in its native country. Lorimar did with Broken English in 1981

Christopher Nolan praises Zaslav in the Variety interview that just came out. I found that incredibly disappointing.

Why wouldn't he? WB have supported all his projects in the last two-plus decades, and given him a fair amount of creative control in areas that would be restricted for other, less bankable filmmakers. They even stood by him amidst the whole COVID Tenet release he pushed relentless for against all risk management variables. If there's one auteur who'd be unconditionally grateful for WB right now, Nolan would be the guy
