Not that this matters to anyone, but I just read in that article that she's from my hometown, and she's 2 years younger than me. It's a small town, but I don't think I knew her or anything... OK, that's all.

More people will see Page on Diablo Cody than will see her in that rollerderby movie

As a Canadian, I feel I must apologize for that blog.

Why do I get the feeling Juno will become the new Bryan Adams?

I'll say it again: Juno is the new My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It gets to people with its heart-warming story and 'sarcastic bite'.

It really depresses me that shit like this gets hailed as 'genius' when some truly 'indie' films (with actual meaning) slip through the cracks (my favorite of the past several years has to be Mysterious Skin... although the subject matter is a little too difficult to warrant mass-appeal).

All in all I think Juno is sort of just a (far, FAR) lesser Harold and Maude (quirky comedy with some 'serious' moments).

In all fairness, I'm a Juno fan/apologist, but outside of Roger Ebert, has anyone really hailed this film as being genius?

Edit: I just Googled "juno", "review" and "genius" and the answer, is yes.

The film isn't completely horrible. I don't see how people hate it so intensely. Is it best picture material and better than all the stuff it made more money than? No. But was it evil?

Nah, I thought it was cute, light hearted, semi-well acted, and sentimental with a bumpin little soundtrack. Obviously inflated because of Jason Reitman's ego+nepitism+vizunary directing skills and Diablo Cody's polarizing dialogu But in the end I still think there's enough to salvage it as a good and enjoyable film.

I kinda like it against the black background with no soundtrack, it makes me wonder how these "indie" movies would function as minimalist plays.

Throw in a little Fassbinder and we may see some signs of film literacy.

I'll bite. Juno's struggle mirrors that of Maria Braun through its social commentary upon the role of women in a contemporary society while also juxtaposing their position with that of women of past generations. Both are strong women: Maria with her use of sexuality as a form of power, and Juno with her use of zany pop culture references as a means to lull the audience into a state of Tarantino-like self-consciousness. Maria and Juno's end says more about the society they live in than the characters themselves, Maria's states the continual oppression of women in a male-dominated society, while Juno's corresponds to the state of post-9/11 American film as a vacuous void of quirky songs and stripper screenwriters, showing that women in Hollywood have become cursed with only being given rom-com and indie leads. End bullshit analogy.

Let's hope it's a Juno Redux, rewriting all the dialogue.
