highly recommended that everyone watches this, as the conversations in the past have been incredibly insightful. plus, we may get an update on the Apu Trilogy and also the MGM titles, since the two films they're presenting (Decameron and Sunday Bloody Sunday) are MGMs...I hope they get asked about Red River and if they'll be including the different versions (please)

I actually saw it on a US label too, but it someone like VCI or Alpha with nothing to lose from being percieved as 'racially insensitive' and everything to gain by selling some Hitchcock.

This is all unsubstatiated speculation on my part, in large part due to the fact that the former Criterion Laserdisc Showboat, which agueably features Paul Robeson's most famous performance, the very song that Janus' very own Saul Turrell focused on in his documentry, was not in the boxset or released on its own. This all despite the fact that it is owned by Universal and likely available. I had just assumed it was similar sensitivities as prompt Disney to hold back 'Song of the South'. I easily could be wrong and made completely misguided assumption. But all that I'm proposing is that they may not want to touch it for those reasons (which I completely understand). However bravo if they did.

I'd love to see Criterion release Under Capricorn, if they could get the rights. While it's not one of his best works, I've always enjoyed it and it hasn't been given its due on home video.

According to Kim Hendrickson in the Wexner Center talk, Criterion currently does not have the rights to any other Pasolini films.

They also quickly said "a pre-code title" - to which the conversation was hushed up.

Hendrickson was asked if any Eclipse titles would ever come to the main line. She said, "Well there is a new restoration of Bernard's Les Miserables. It's a beautiful film. So that might be a possibility for Blu-ray at some point."

The Jungle Book thing was a mistake. She was asked a question about The Jungle Book. She said, "Was it not in the Sabu Box? If not, that's probably because there are plans to release it later." She was mistaken about it not already being released.

I believe that she said that it may come out in the mainline because of the restoration. Bernard's Les Miserables is probably my favorite Eclipse title. I'm overjoyed by this possibility.

About time Criterion started doing this kind of thing. Hopefully they'll get to do it again with Touch of Evil just like MOC, since Universal seems uninterested in ever releasing it on Blu-ray. I'd love to see major studios eventually take a lesson from this practice too as I can't really imagine, for example, Stanley Kubrick's final three pictures existing in only one aspect ratio either.

they definitely need to do Touch of Evil. I know they'll catch a lot of junk from posters here about "ripping off" MOC but that movie seriously needs the recognition in the US that it deserves.

the news about Satyajit Ray was really promising. they seem to really care about the Apu Trilogy, and if they can't get that out soon, they'll give us more Ray in the meantime. quite cool (kinda similar to Ivan's Childhood, no?)
