As far as potential, new box sets are concerned, here's some they still owe us off top of my head (since we are in the mood of giant box list making):
Koker Trilogy
Apu Trilogy
Wim Wenders' Road Movie Trilogy
Oshima's Youth Trilogy
Bergman-Rossellini set
Chaplin set(s)
Harold Lloyd set(s)

I'm happy if any of these make it to the shelf this Christmas season.

Of those, the Oshimas could easily come out on Eclipse. Assuming there's going to be a limited number of potential extras available for the director, I'd much rather they saved them - and the Blu bump that would come with them - for the later ATG films.

I'm also uncertain about Chaplin and Lloyd. With Chaplin at least, I'm sure Criterion will be eking out his bankability and releasing everything individually, with maybe a shorts package rounding up the waifs and strays (or folding them into a deluxe release of The Kid, as has been wisely suggested around these parts). I can see Lloyd going the same way, with the more recognizable / bankable features coming out with shorts (or lesser features) attached and the remaining titles ending up on Eclipse. Eclipse certainly seems like a good bet for the sound films.

With La Notte coming up, they can finally release Antonioni's Existential Trilogy since the other two aren't on Blu yet.

Sorry if I've missed mention of this somewhere... but with Second Sight in the UK announcing that they have THUNDERBOLT & LIGHTFOOT planned, doesn't that mean it's almost certainly going to be a Criterion very soon too?

I don't believe they've ever formally said that they have the rights, but I think it is fair to assume that it will be announced soon if they do have the rights.

The New Year drawing suggested a release of The Kid for 2013, but I'll be pretty disappointed if it doesn't end up being a "Chaplin at First National" set instead. Everything would fit fine on 2 Blu-rays, with space for supplements.

Has Criterion ever hinted at releasing Louis Malle's ATLANTIC CITY? We know they're gaga over him, although the Paramount disc seems to still be in print.

would fit easily on two discs for sure. I'll bet on this coming out in September. Wenders and Antonioni sets in July or August, this september, nothing October, and Rossellini/Bergman November, with Koker or Oshima in December. can't help but feel like Harold Lloyd will see another mainline film with a few shorts as well.

Is it? I don't think I've heard anything regarding this other than "if only" speculation.

I think there was a Facebook post/poll a long time ago about the Three Colors trilogy and the Decalogue, along the lines of 'Which one?' and/or 'Which first?'

Re: new box sets, Janus has been restoring Jacques Demy films, so it's theoretically possible those could be boxed rather than individually released..

Some of the lesser Demys could end up in a box, perhaps (and if you stuck L'evenement le plus important. . . in a box and buried it, I wouldn't let out a peep), but the big titles like The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Lola would be backbone collection releases.

I'd like to know this as well. We need more Altman on Blu-ray, and Short Cuts is one of his best.

I don't believe there's been any indication. I think the problem now would be they would have to go through Warner Bros. to get the licencing rights for Blu-ray. But as indicated by Badlands they have some sort of relationship with them now so I'd say there's a chance, especially since I couldn't see Warner rushing out to release it.

The more Altman, the better. It's a shame that Criterion couldn't (or didn't want to) pick up COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME, but I really hope that some of his more under-the-radar TV works at least get an Eclipse, particularly TWO BY SOUTH and THE LAUNDROMAT (which, like TANNER '88, was for HBO).
