Michael,

Could you post the rest of the films that got two or more votes, but that didn't make the final cut?

As for the 90s: how we will ever get any consensus on what single (or more) Simpsons episode to vote for?

Also: what do we do after compiling a list for the noughties (so far)? Start again with the silent era?

Go to page 12 of this thread and look for that list which I updated a few moments ago. The list now has all the films that got at least 2 votes but didn't make the master list.

No Simpsons. Not eligible. Sorry.
Also: what do we do after compiling a list for the noughties (so far)? Start again with the silent era?
We will continue with the 2000s before making the next round. Since we're halfway through the 2000s, vote for just 25 films (instead of the usual 50) and the top 50 films will make the master list.

Crikey! Are we onto the 90s already? I've just looked at my "short list" (films that, off the top of my head, should be in the top 50) and it's about 100 films, so this will be a challenge!

Not to be redundant, but music videos are eligible, right?

I didn't see any in the 80s list or this preliminary list of 90s that people voted for.

They are so totally eligible. There were none in the 80s list because haters fail to recognize the importance of Express Yourself.

No Simpsons. Not eligible. Sorry.
Why not? For the 90s: don't forget The Suspended Step of the Stork and Institute Benjamenta, or This Dream People Call Human Life. Nor should you forget the Wallace & Grommit shorts.

They covered the inclusion of TV a while back. Check Page 6 and Page 9 for the discussion.
matt wrote:We never really had to deal with this question before since television was not really a factor in the earlier lists. We've been pretty liberal with qualifications, though, so I think it's fair game. Let's draw the line at commercials, though, but I think music videos will be fair game when the '80s list rolls around.
matt wrote:TV movies (even those run over successive evenings) and TV specials are okay. No epsiodic television. Of course, this is going to make everyone's list-making even more difficult, and I pity the poor person stuck with compiling the lists for the '70s, '80s, and '90s (and '00s, if we do that).
matt wrote:Well, we can't assume that. I'm sure a lot of people would have voted for things like The Twilight Zone if they had the option. Since they didn't, and since we don't really want to change the rules in the middle of the project: no episodic TV. Maybe we'll have a TV version of this in the future.

I think this thread is beginning to confuse the hell out of everyone. Is there any way we can have a locked sticky thread (updated just by mods when needed) which would just contain the "official" lists, guidelines and due dates, and then another thread for all the other discussion? Just a thought. :)

Is that the first series only, or lumped together with The Kingdom II? (I'd personally prefer to keep the two series separate -- they're very different in tone.)

Can I assume that Premonitions Following an Evil Deed, the David Lynch segment from Lumiere et Compagnie, is eligible on its own? And does anyone know if the Patrice Leconte segment from the same film -- the one where the train doesn't stop at La Ciotat station -- has a name?

Kingdom (1994) and Kingdom II (1997) are to be treated separately.

Premonitions Following an Evil Deed is certainly eligible on its own.

Is that what it's called? Listed as "Lumiere" at imdb and on Lynch's Short Films DVD. I'll certainly be voting for it.

A quick reminder:

The deadline for the 90s list is three weeks from today - November 30th.

Also take a look at the list on the previous page. Many new "voted-for" films added.

Was there a verdict on the Twin Peaks pilot? Is it considered episodic television and therefore ineligible?

I would love for the utterly stunning Twin Peaks pilot to be included however it's a part of the TV series. So that means it's not eligible.

However, David Lynch's film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992) is perfectly eligible.

The Twin Peaks pilot is tricky since it was considered a stand-alone TV movie in some non-North American markets. I'll defer to Michael, though, since he is in charge of this particular list.
Oh okay. I didn't know about the Twin Peaks pilot being the stand-alone TV movie in other countries. Awesome. Go for it! I'm actually happy about that...I personally think the pilot can stand alone as one of the greatest things ever created for television. But make sure you put down Twin Peaks: The Pilot so I don't get it confused with Fire Walk With Me.

Plus, the Twin Peaks pilot screened in 35 mm in some film festivals (which is where I first saw it). This version was the real pilot with the cold ending, not the cryptic red room coda that was added to later video releases.
