As long as she doesn't ask Mon Mothma to reaffirm her worth... They have stated that they fashioned Rogue One as a gritty war film. So hopefully it's more of beach landing, and not the rest of the bullshit that was Pvt. Ryan.
Also, I think Young Adult means teen romance/angst in the Twilight vein?

I'm guessing young adult means "shipping" Ala the Harry Potter books as they came out.

I'm not so much shipping Jyn and Luke rather just working off the wide spread assumption Rey is Luke's daughter. the big hole in such an equation is reys mother, and unfortunately I think the widespread if rather sexist further assumption is that Jyn is the only female in the star wars universe who could fill this role. its a rather sad comnent on the sexist filmmaking of the original trilogy and it's total absence of female roles.

It's also hard for me not to immediately think she seems like Mara jade (Luke's wife in the expanded universe books ) so it seems like a natural fit to me.

And as a game of thrones fan, I really can't resist the rearranged letters of j+l=r

I hope Jyn isn't Rey's mom, not only because it makes the galaxy of Star Wars seem small, but because I can't see that information being naturally dropped into this film, which means it has to wait for a sequel where a young Luke would enter the picture. I'm excited about some of these Spin-off films exploring other corners of the Star Wars universe in different tones, but I'm not sure if I want a whole side trilogy of "Star Wars: Rogue X" films. I haven't heard anything about Disney signing up the actors for multiple films, though I expect they're waiting for the box office receipts to decide the future of these side projects.

I do agree that Jyn has a Mara Jade vibe (and Mendelssohn's admiral has a Thrawn-like elegance with that cape), which makes it seem like Disney is harvesting some of the better ideas from the Expanded Universe. This is especially true if the trailer's final shot/line indicates that Jyn is a double agent/eventual traitor, and is not just misdirection.

Disney is pissed at the first cut of Star Wars: Rogue One and orders an exhaustive month worth of reshoots

Unfortunate for Edwards. Hopefully this is being blown out of proportion.

From the Hollywood Reporter:
The goal of the reshoots will be to lighten the mood, bring some levity into the story and restore a sense of fun to the adventure... Sources say that while Edwards’ first cut was a solid showing, it didn’t measure up to the bar set in terms of four-quadrant appeal.
Sounds like I'd have liked that version better; there shouldn't be a problem with some variation in tone between features to give them some individual flavor, but then again, it's not my golden goose.

Oh great so they just wanna make the movie more uniform instead of having these directors actually project their vision. Awesome.

Not a lot of info to go on. Perhaps they are dealing with a Batman v Superman kind of problem here. Godzilla was a directorial mess, so who knows. Generally I would be against studio interventions against directors, but until more facts are known, it's hard to say what's really going on here. One thing we can probably be sure of: this is not a good sign for where the picture stands now.

The trailer lacked magic, in my opinion.

I agree that Godzilla wasn't the best showing for the power of Edward's directorial vision, but the studio refusing to countenance a dark Star Wars movie does seem like it kind of takes away the hope we might get another Empire.

Rian Johnson has to feel like the guy who hears his parents fighting in the other room and just hopes he doesn't get any blowback from their angry mood

That the studio clearly is interested in seeing only the same thing safely replayed over and over again should come as no surprise at this point to anyone and certainly to no one who saw Force Awakens.

..studio execs felt like Rogue One was “tonally off with what a ‘classic’ Star Wars movie should feel like,”
I thought the point of these "outside the main saga" films was to try out different approaches. Obviously not. I suspect this is all about watering down something that doesn't need fixing.

If Disney are changing a film that they authorised the director to shoot - in other words, he hasn't changed the script during filming - then he has a right to feel aggrieved.

This will probably sound more snide than I intend, but why did you think this? I thought it's been clear since Disney first talked about doing them that the point was to bilk every last possible dollar from a popular franchise.

But, it's possible that Disney talked up new, adventurous directions to take these stories in and I missed it.

It was Kathleen Kennedy who pushed for the Anthology films and especially the idea that these will be standalone stories (the Saga ones with the episode numbers will focus on the Skywalker story).

This sounds like Lucasfilm is now a more fully-absorbed division of Disney if one would compare to say Marvel.

Agreed, from what we've seen so far, this is a reboot campaign, and not a reimagining of anything. Consider these simply an enticement to visit Star Wars land at their theme parks.

This.

By the way, word on the street is that Episode 8 is quite dark and psychological. If the argument here is that Disney only wants to do soft remakes, then at least we can have hope for Episode 8 to follow in Empire's footsteps. :D

I guess Disney didn't want the trailer's stated philosophy expanding to the filmmakers

I hope the Han Solo participation in the film is not shamelessly shoe-horned into the picture, like so many "coincidences" in the prequels (Anakin building C-3PO, for example). #-o

I assume that's in reference to him being on set to make sure Edwards was "on the same page," which is code for "actually directing"

It very well could be. Which is funny, since I think that's the most easily believable out of all the rumors so far.

Well, yes, obviously. And if the 40% reshoot story is correct, then that's a huge alteration. But they're sticking with the director and not replacing him, which is interesting.

I wonder if the novelisation, released in seven months, will be based on the shooting script or the revised edition. (You'd think the latter, however Jaws 2 was based on the original script and is very different from the finished film. But then studio control wasn't so obsessively tight in the Seventies.)

And will Disney allow a director's cut for the Blu-Ray?
