I noticed that TCM is running an upcoming programming promo including what's being called a "Special Kubrick Theme" for September, so maybe that will tie into an announcement... or release?

My prediction... July Criterion announces the boxset, TCM Kubrick theme for Sept and October release of the box. In time for a B&N sale in November

If they do dip into the Wayne Wang well again, I could see it being The Joy Luck Club, despite the fact that it’s Disney-owned. Producer Janet Yang was head of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for a number of years, and a new DCP exists

I can’t see a complete Kubrick set from Criterion being of much use to anyone unless they one-up WB in their treatment of the four catalogue titles for which Criterion don’t have standalone rights, and it’s still a matter of « if » that will be the case.

And I’m inclined to think WB will contractually disallow Criterion from improving on their UHD releases of those films (sort of like how Arrow’s UHD of Psycho was essentially a direct port of the Universal disc), although I could be wrong.

Wasn't the Wes Anderson box announced in May and hit streets in September?

Dead on. Announced on May 28 and hit in September.

Right. My speculation was tied into the TCM Kubrick promotion. There was no such thing with Anderson

Not a great month but I am extremely excited for Coup De Torchon. Wasn’t sure they would ever release it. An interesting note on August. Four Tuesdays in August. The 18th is empty of any releases. Could something else be coming? Kubrick?

A Memorial Day update: 4K catalog news on THE RIGHT STUF (and others)

I suppose this means that THE RIGHT STUFF will be a Warner Bros. release. I know there had been some talk that Criterion may do it. I was hoping for that. I'm sure Warner's will be great.

The previous Warner editions were pretty stacked with two commentaries, making-of documentaries, deleted scenes, and even a feature-length PBS documentary on John Glenn. I doubt Criterion could (or, these days, would) improve on that.

Is there a potential that the Costa-Gavras rights issues have been sorted out? I was looking on Apple TV and saw The Confession was available for purchase and the studio was listed as Criterion.

Criterion have collaborated with Carlotta, the FDCP and the Philippine Film Archives on a 4K restoration of Lino Brocka's Weighed But Found Wanting (Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang)

Strong reasoning to believe a revival of the mentioned Bollywood boxset by Lee Kline a few years ago with the Roy films (they now have the restored version of his masterful Sujata, was on the FHF site credited with Janus/Criterion), Mother India as a Janus title, and Sholay (probably getting it’s own spine).

Potential other films included may be the Dutt restorations they were trying to get years back and the restored In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones and the two Yash Chopra films restored being Chandni and Silsila.

The other release he mentioned was the Coen’s Man Who Wasn’t There which finally came to the collection this year.
