He’s def consistent in his favorites though (or perhaps he’s playing up his public perception of being the biggest M fan a bit too)colinr0380 wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2026 8:41 amDoes that come before or after Chabrol's 1982 short remake of M for the Cine-Parade TV series?domino harvey wrote: Sat Oct 03, 2026 1:07 am...and he does get a chance to play Peter Lorre in an M parody! (And you can probably get the “joke”, as much as there is one, of that sketch without speaking the language at all) That one and the western skit have thematic conceits that I suspect Chabrol brought with him to the show, but who knows

Looks like Les Godelureaux will be playing in NYC next Tuesday at L’alliance Francais in what seems to be a restored version. I am fascinated by this movie as it came off an early high point for Chabrol with Les Bonnes Femmes and I found it almost incomprehensible. The version I saw was also terrible looking, so I am very tempted to see this to see if a better looking print can help it work better for me.

It is an inexplicable movie, the silliest and most disproportionate “revenge” movie imaginable, but that’s part of the charm

Somehow it would be nice if Chabrol sat on a cloud above somewhere and smiled his cheshire cat smile about some guys who still look closely at his films.

Tomorrow is Sunday and whenever I think of the notion of a "sunday walk" the first thing that comes to my mind is the scene with Yanne & Audran in "Le boucher". Man, how good is this? I fell in love with that scene when I was 19 and now I'm 55, there you go.
