The disconcerting thing about this is how much of a mess the website still was. As in, it seemed to get worse every week of the beta rather than better. I'm hoping that's fixed soon, but if they mean to launch in a month or less....

I missed out on the beta so I'm curious to see what the launch is like. I'm really hoping there will be a PS4 app eventually because I'd rather not have to buy a different streaming device for my TV. I guess there's always chromecast but still.

Noir City e-magazine has a piece on FilmStruck and has launching date listed as October 19. Here is some more noir related news about the service -

To those who tested the beta - was there any indication that Lorber Films would be involved with filmstruck? It's pretty obvious that Kino's classic catalogue would be involved, but what about newer titles (i.e. Jia Zhangke's films)?

I remain frustrated that it doesn't seem like many, if any, television-connected devices will be supported at launch. One of the bigger canards of the streaming experience so far has been the idea that everyone just opens a web browser on a computer or phone and then watches a whole movie on it. Shout! Factory's streaming service still only supports web browsers and Roku devices despite being around for several months now.

They weren't testing them, but there were fields that listed devices that you own in case apps were ready to be tested, inluding Xboxes and Playstations.

(Given Xbox's recently opening up its apps support to be basically wide-open for anyone to put something out, I can't imagine why they wouldn't be able to get something out there relatively quickly)

There were some newer Kino Lorber films on the beta version but there was no indication with the theme pages that any Jia Zhangke films were going to be added soon.

I'm with you on this. My excitement for Filmstruck was based on TCM finally sorting itself online as I was totally happy with the Hulu/Criterion partnership.

This can not be true. I mean it's not really a 'launch' if your app for the various set top boxes out there aren't ready. If this turns out to be true I'll be disappointed at all the parties involved as it clearly will show they lack the vision necessary for this to succeed. A shame.

They have sort of a PC-lite interface that includes downloadable apps like streaming services, making streaming boxes like Roku and Amazon Fire TV a redundancy for anyone who has one (or both) of them plugged into their living room TV.

Ah now I understand. Video games are the one thing I have never gotten into. Not since the days sega genesis and super nintendo that is. They look amazing now tho. People are always raving about Vice City.

The PS3 in our house is still our primary DVD/Blu-ray player and we use it to watch Amazon streaming stuff (since they refuse to allow Apple TV or Chromecast support. [Give it up, Amazon. You are not a competitor to Apple and Google.])

I'm not crazy about the tiers. $6.99 sounds perfect for the first tier, but to go from $7.99 with Hulu to $10.99 with Filmstruck... kind of a disappointment. That being said, Criterion and TCM can still take my damn money.
