cdnchris wrote:Yes! Odd selection of titles to be the first batch, but at least they're including most of the Connery titles including my favourite Bond film, From Russia with Love
Just watched that again after reading the book again after a gap of years. Robert Shaw was probably the best ever Bond villain, would have been a good choice to play Bond, in fact. Loved the scene n the movie where Bond suspects that Grant is not the Englishman he claims to be ("Red wine with fish?") : in the book Bond's hackles are roused by the windsor tie knot Grant wears, "often the mark of a cad". None of this humour would find its way into today's Bond scripts.

So does this mean that we will never again see the Bond films revisited on SD-DVD or ever get halfway decent packages of the Connery films without upgrading to BR?

It looks like a direct retread aesthetically, stylistically from Casino Royale which isn't a bad thing at all. Bond looks badass walking over the hill with a gun, and more Jeffrey Wright is great too.

I'm still worried about Pacino (and his hair) making a cameo though.

Die Another Day is now a "Classic Bond Film"? It is probably Brosnan's worst Bond film and arguably the worst Bond film ever.

Alicia Keys and Jack White pen the song that no one will remember anyway.

Far as I'm concerned, there's just "Live And Let Die" "A View To A Kill", and the rest is muzak.

Joe Cornish (of Adam and Joe) has a try at the Quantum of Solace song, which he describes in their podcast as a mixture of David Bowie and Madonna.

Adam Buxton's song can also be heard here!

Oh come on, it's Bond. Out of print every two or three years, reissued every two or three years...

In a just world, the producers would have taken him up on the offer and we'd all be hearing that in a theatre come November.

New trailer. Amalric looks good as the villain.

Looks pretty great/fun up until that "your prison is up there" line...

Bad reminder of the "littlest finger" scenes that really tried to sink that first film.

The Harry Potter movie was moved to next summer so a few movies have shifted their release dates around that, either moving them to an earlier release date or later release date hoping to maximize the money they take in the first weekend, something the Potter movie would have cut into.

Listen to the song you're going have to endure during the opening credits here.

I'm not a fan of Alicia Keys of Jack White, but putting the song within context, it works just fine. It's representative musically of the time that the particular Bond film is being released, has the "epic" bom-bom-bom Bond flourishes, and features a contemporary, soulfully-voiced female vocalist.

That's just awful. It starts off by erratically quoting a bunch of Bond-type chords from different eras (none of which coalesce into an actual beat), and then sinks into the worst kind of pop music.

That's what they get for hiring creative musicians to perform the Bond song for once. Bring back Madonna!
