we're a one of a kind breed: those who don't buy into gus van sants bullshit. "it's suppose to evoke a dream-like feeling..." i don't know about you, but my dreams don't involve a 5 minute steady cam shot of some emo douche kid that has little to do with the story. had they thrown in a predator and carl weathers, battling the kids in the school, then i might be interested.

I consider this trolling. I'm not a big van Sant fan, but still... Gerry is pretty fucking great, though...

Oh, so My Own Private Idoho is not enough to disown CC, but Elephant is? What about Metropolitan, then? The Rock?

To get back on topic, I like The Shining cover, although it doesn't fit the film. The colors are wrong; they don't match the film at all.

I was thinking more of the other guy. But anyway, I agree that the Shining cover is the most interesting of these, which makes me wonder whatever happened to those promised Kubrick reissues.

warner's probably holding out until they can get support for Total HD before they release them, I'm guessing.

OT: Renaissance cover looks semi-cool, but with a film of that style, there are probably a thousand other frames that would look even better.

this is most likely the wrong thread but i dunno where the right thread would be...would it be possible for any of you great cover makers to create a "criterion" cover for Bye Bye Brazil that was just released from New Yorker? I did a really stupid thing with my case of it and left it out near the fireplace in the living room while i was watching the movie and...well...the plastic and case melted and its all destroyed

Greathinker you should consider doing some covers for Criterion!
All the covers you've made so far are excellent, especially your version of Rashomon, that's definitively one of the most beatiful covers for Criterion movies I've ever seen, a lot better than the original one.

I'd wager there's all sorts of legal stickiness that goes with accepting a cover designed by a fan readily available on the internet; opens up the door for accusations of plagiarism, that sort of thing. Plus, they just don't want to pay him when there regualr guys can do it.

No problemo. I don't imagine I do better work than criterion-- they have a very adept art department with more resources, what does it matter if one of their covers isn't a homerun for everybody.

Speaking of that list, I assume that it was an assumption that Wiktor Sadowski illustrated the three war films box, because we now know from Skillman's blog that he did those all himself.

I like the title treatment on Greathinker's Days of Heaven cover. I am hoping to see something to do with this still on the actual cover. I think that it might look good cropped so that the house is on the far right of the frame, and no people appear; or cropped so that only Gere, the dude to his left, and the right side of the house appear. I also like this Days of Heaven title treatment, or something similar to this one from the All the Real Girls one-sheet. I have neither the skill nor the software to create such a thing, so if any of you artistic types want to work something up for my viewing pleasure, I won't complain.
