But seriously, I could see the point of Twilight Time snapping up Fright Night - a seriously good cult classic with a recent remake that was raising interest in the original film. The problematic Night of the Living Dead remake is a whole different story however.

I hate to say it but based purely on the trailer I would quite like to see Megaforce! It looks like a cross between Mad Max and BMX Bandits!

I'm still hopeful that Criterion will get Newman's adaptation of THE GLASS MENAGERIE (1987). There's a book about the rehearsal process that he took the actors through by Stewart Stern (writer of REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE and RACHEL, RACHEL) entitled NO TRICKS IN MY POCKET that I'd love to see them bundle with it.

Conversely, I watched this movie several times as a kid BECAUSE the alien was so ugly.

I am slightly nostalgic re: this movie, but, alas, I've been burned too many times revisiting childhood favorites as an adult. I liked a lot of really, really crappy movies as a kid.

Wow! Threw in As Good as it Gets and does it look M.U.D.D.Y. Colours are nothing special and appear to bleed at times, and it just has this hazy, flat look to it like it came from a copy of a copy. I'm going to have to make a comparison when I get a moment but I swear the clip shown in the Broadcast News Blu-ray extras looked better than this. I thought The Big Heat looked pretty damned good so I'm bewildered as to why this one is so mediocre.

I saw this atrocity at the cinema in '82 and, for me, it remains a bench-mark for bland awfulness. Not bad enough to be fun, just dismally inept. I'm still embarrassed to admit I paid money to see it; I can only imagine I was terrifically bored that summer (and had already seen POLTERGEIST and E.T. three times each as well as ANNIE, STAR TREK: WRATH OF KHAN, ROCKY III, THE THING, MONTY PYTHON AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL and BLADE RUNNER!).

There are really only two scenes in MegaForce that one needs to see: The team's first appearance, as they use motorcycle-mounted missile launchers to destroy a menacing army of balloons, and of course the finale where Barry Bostwick takes flight in the worst special effect this side of Birdemic.

My main connection with MEGAFORCE is seeing the ads that were plastered on the back of Marvel comics in the months leading to its release. I also know someone who is such a big fan of the film that they've collected anything and everything relating to it, even a film print of the trailer.

Maybe it's been discussed here before, but are Screen Archive's shipments to foreign countries "customs friendly"? Do they put the real value of the order on the customs declaration? I think I might get The Big Heat and Swamp Water if I don't have to pay customs.

Update: already found an answer. I guess I'll place my order in July unless somebody else announces better and cheaper releases in the meanwhile.

Then went to checkout, where I was warned that if I use the cheapest shipping option then my lost/stolen orders won't be replaced or refunded, and I was offered to use registered or express mail shipping, which would respectively add $15 or $25 to the total cost of my order, but the option to use the cheap regular shipping was still there. Sounds reasonable to me.

They're still obliged to replace your orders if they go missing anyway. PayPal or your credit card provider will side with the buyer every single time in this instance. A bit of a blatant scam, in all honesty.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I believe there is a french distributor putting out the Big Heat. So, if you are in Estonia, you might get a better deal importing it from France.

He mentioned in the review that he's a musician, which piqued my interest. Has anyone else heard the music samples here on his website? Sweet Jeebus. I couldn't get through most of them, but especially interesting are his treatments of Wayne Shorter ("Speak No Evil") and Nirvana ("Frances Farmer WIll Have Her Revenge on Seattle").

And he scored the pilot to an abortive soap made in our home town that I never knew existed? This thing has to be seen to be believed. A talking computer picks eleven strangers to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real... or something. Each of them has "a weakness: Valium! Infidelity! Impotence! Schizophrenia! Croissants!" Amazing. Portlandia has never been anywhere near this funny.
