Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
That would be amazing, because you know Criterion would take the time / effort to present all versions, multiple scores, etc. One can only pray this means they struck a deal to release it.Criterion wrote:We’ve always wanted to release a definitive edition of Abel Gance’s silent masterpiece Napoleon. Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
I wonder if this means Peter Becker is going to be at the showing on the 24th? (I have a fantasy of cornering him and squeezing some info from him, using thumbscrews of course....)Criterion wrote:We’ve always wanted to release a definitive edition of Abel Gance’s silent masterpiece Napoleon. What is the average time between newsletter hint and 15th new release announcement?

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
I think it's usually around two months but can obviously take much longer (Cronos for example took nearly two years).

That was my first thought when I saw the image, as it exactly matches one of the movie's funniest scenes. I would not be surprised if that's what it really is.movielocke wrote:Damn. I was hoping it meant they got The Awful Truth from Paramount...

It is Umberto D. There is no doubt.

This could potentially be a August or September release. Very exciting.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
Remember UMBERTO D also made it first to DVD... Question is will they add any additional extras for BR?...swo17 wrote:It's a great film. Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
Maybe they do a Zavattini-De Sica set with Bicycle Thieves, Umberto D, Shoeshine, Miracle in Milan, The Children Are Watching Us, The Gold of Naples.

Maybe they'll succumb to Jean Dujardin-mania and include Un homme et son chien!

Isn't that technically evidence of the fabled double (or quadruple) clue?

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
No. Back in the early days of the newsletter clues, they always had animals that were already in the collection presenting them (including my favorite, the demon from Equinox). They eventually discontinued this trend. Regardless, Umberto D was out long before that clue.domino harvey wrote:Isn't that technically evidence of the fabled double (or quadruple) clue?

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
I'm not sure but were there clues back then? I think they may have just had animals bringing us the forthcoming instead of having the inaccurate catalogs and that turned into animals being the clues?
