I think I said it elsewhere recently, but I'll say it again here: I reckon the Imamura titles that Eureka and Criterion previously covered may only get released again if a new restoration has been done for the titles, and if Nikkatsu or Shochiku won't do those themselves, perhaps a label will have to shell out to do them (or at least collaborate, as Radiance are doing).

Profound Desires of the Gods got a 4K restoration a few years ago, but from the trailer it looks like the colours are way off, so it would need some seeing to if someone were to prepare it for release (especially if they were looking at a 4K UHD release). Maybe the more realistic situation is individual releases, as Eureka initially did (the box set was an afterthought, and only done because they were losing rights to them all).

Does anyone have any experience with Radiance customer support? I’d imagine only positive things, but I’ve emailed them twice in the past ten days and haven’t heard anything back so I figured I’d ask around

Interesting, I emailed them recently on an item that hadn't shipped and got a response from Bruno literally within 10 minutes. And it turned out it was my misreading something and not their error.

No complaint so far. They even responded to my title suggestions.

On BR.com, someone reached out to Bruno and asked if they'd do Married to the Mob and he said not on their schedule for this year but he didn't rule anything out for the future.

The same poster also asked Bruno about the upcoming Zulawski a few days ago and got the following answer:
Thanks again for reaching out. As you know I can't share too much about upcoming unannounced releases since they are always subject to schedule changes and unexpected obstacles. But I will just say that Femme Publique has been on our radar...

Femme Publique was listed on the contents page of the 'failed licences' this year but there was no accompanying blurb and didn't make it onto the Letterboxd list either so it seems like something had changed while the booklet was being produced. The question is whether the Zulawski clue was referring to another title (i.e. L'Important C'est D'aimer, which would also fit IMP on the clue sheet) and Femme Publique was later added in addition to that, or if has been only Femme Publique all along.

Probably a long shot, but could the MV clue in the 2026 list refer to Petri's Maestro di Vigevano, given the company's interest in the director? They said they tried to release another early Petri film, namely I Giorni Contati, but have stumbled on some licence issues.

Oh nice suggestion. It was release on Blu-ray in France already.

Radiance teased US (hotdogs), France (baguettes), Japan (sushi) and I think Mexico (paprika?) for tomorrow. I'm probably guessing the country wrong for the paprika.

Paprika is most associated with Hungary, surely?

betting on Marta Meszaros' The Inheritance due to its more international/big name cast. just feels like a Radiance title

Szabo's Sunshine, Cannes Classics 4K, long.
Luis García Berlanga's Life Size belongs to Enrinque Cerezo's Video Mercury Films, but it was a French coproduction too.

Just rewatched Kontroll (Hungary) on Hoopla (because I was surprised to see it there) and thought it would be a good candidate for someone to upgrade from SD.

I think The Witness is the closest guess due to it corresponding with a clue on the sheet, even if I'd also love to retire my Kontroll DVD. It's bound to happen eventually though.

Either way, great to see a UK label other than Second Run dip into Hungarian cinema (besides Bela Tarr of course, and Eureka's all too brief flirtation with Jankovics' work).

PS: I thought the paprika tease could have either been Hungary or Spain, the two countries most associated with the spice in both a culinary and food production sense. Always happy to see more Spanish titles of course but appreciate Radiance are looking to other less-represented countries still. Hoping they get to, say, Estonia eventually!
