Nobody's been "forced out", have they? I was at Fran's leaving do last week and...

...well, it was sharply different from mine at the BFI eleven years ago, which I shared with a number of people who really had been forced out (mass redundancy), so you can probably imagine what the atmosphere there was like!

I think it's crucial to stress that the present production team - James Flower, Michael Mackenzie, Jasper Sharp and Neil Snowdon (sincere apologies if I've left anyone out; I'm rather out of the loop these days) - is every bit as capable as their predecessors, if not more so; I've known all of them for years and have worked directly with most of them on more than one occasion. In fact, right now there's a particularly good balance between seriously heavyweight film knowledge and hands-on technical skill, which certainly wasn't always the case in the past.

I was speaking generally about similar occurrences (Anchor Bay, New Line Cinema) not specifically about Arrow and that being why the forums were a bit panicky.

Sounds good, James!

(Did we ever find out what 'LM Box' was? Fingers crossed for Lukas Moodysson...)
I lean towards this, especially knowing James is working on it. that's right in line with Over the Edge. looking forward to it!!!

it totally could be Martel too, just (to me) seems like Moodysson is more of a fit, especially knowing James produced an edition in the same vein somewhat recently.

either way, Arrow doing arthouse stuff is something I'll pick up. gotta vote with my wallet

I can't see how it can be Martel - half of her features (2/4) appear to still be in print in the UK and even more than that in the US.

All of Moodysson's works have been OOP in the UK for years, despite him being one of the best known names in world cinema just 10-15 years ago. Additionally, his films have recently been restored and re-released in Sweden.

I asked Fran specifically about Moullet or Jacques Rozier earlier this year and they weren't possibilities at that point

That doesn't mean we've dumped Academy-style releases altogether though, even if they're in the minority - for one, I'm currently working on a boxset of films by an acclaimed contemporary arthouse filmmaker that is very much within the Academy wheelhouse and I think will make a lot of people on this board happy. The way these things generally work is in cycles, based on whichever bunch of films from a certain deal we're currently working through - so for a while it may be Sony titles, or Toei titles, or Fortune Star titles, then it pivots to Universal titles, or Celestial titles, or MK2 titles, then we get another Sony deal, and another Toei deal, and the cycle begins anew... so basically, hang in there and if there isn't something you're interested in one month, or even for a few months, there will probably be something eventually. Ultimately we're just responding to what's available (not as much as you'd think), what interests us (a lot more than you'd think) and of course what sells well. While I am indeed largely focused on HK action titles at the moment (not entirely by choice, they're just incredibly demanding films to oversee and I'm the one who's become the in-house specialist by default!), there's plenty of variety to go around and I'll be across at least some of it. I'll never understand people (not referring to any posts here, more on Facebook etc) complaining about Arrow not releasing specific types of films anymore or having to change with the times; the amount of companies working in the sector has ballooned over the years and there's an extraordinary amount of choice out there. We can't possibly do all of the films so isn't it brilliant that there are plenty of other labels working hard at picking up the slack where we can't? I suppose in a way it's a backhanded compliment...
Thanks for the post. It is very reassuring in terms of the future of what Arrow has in store for us. Speaking of deals, hope you guys plan on working with Toei again. Too much good stuff there.

At least one Lukas Moodyson film is coming from Arrow. A Bluray.com user had a Fucking Amal postcard in their Candyman 4k.

Fantastic to have some confirmation. I wonder how comprehensive the set will be - if it's dual-territory, it looks like We Are the Best! is still with Magnolia in the States.

I'm glad we got confirmation that quickly on that. definitely hope it's dual region, would be amazing to see someone finally crack Magnolia and license from them in the US... but I'll still import if it isn't

Moodysson’s Together was the most successful first date film of my life because the date in question and I will be marking our 20th wedding anniversary this year.

(She didn’t confess until much later that it was the first time she’d ever watched a subtitled film.)

The error is very minimal, so there really shouldn't be any rush. The Blu-ray had the same issue for YEARS, and not a single person noticed. Very minor issue.

Nope, the film is presented incorrectly and it needs to be fixed. Doesn't matter that the error was only recently discovered.

For the record I do have the Arrow Blu, but I havent watched it. Blu-rays of films I have seen tend to go unwatched for quite awhile because I prioritize films that I haven't seen.

The error was discovered. Why shouldn't it be fixed?

Announcements are on Friday. Here is the hint:

It's been suggested that this is for Tomu Uchida's 'A Fugitive from the Past'.

It should be for A Fugitive from the Past, especially since there's an FFP on Fran's list. Going off the strength of Arrow's previous clues, it equally might be for Somai's Typhoon Club, Joris Ivens' A Tale of the Wind, or The Wind in the Willows.

Maybe we'll get a boxed set with all manner of wind-related motion pictures.
