Wow, #691? Looks like we are going to get another box set, since that is at least 7 new spine numbers.
Why do you hate my wallet, Criterion?

Housemaid is spine #690- Thief comes immediately after it. That's why the trick works.

Ahhh, whoops, my mistake. I didn't realize the WCF titles had individual spine numbers.

So, Battlefield Earth is coming from Criterion also? They're just trolling us.eerik wrote:#691 Thief (linked on The Housemaid page)

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
If you type in any random film into the URL, you'll get that same error message. But Criterion has created a link (from the Housemaid page) that goes to the Thief page that eerik has mentioned; it wasn't just some page that he typed in himself.John Doe wrote:So, Battlefield Earth is coming from Criterion also? EDIT: To see it yourself, just scroll down to the bottom of The Housemaid page and click the link for "Spine 691"

This looks like it will be coming directly from SONY.ianungstad wrote:The Guardian has an article about the restoration of The Lady from Shanghai which just played the London film festival. Grover Crisp states that it will be released on blu in the near future. I assume this will be from either Criterion or Twilight Time.

That bluray.com article is just rehashing the news from The Guardian. I wouldn't make the assumption that it's going to be Sony. They hardly release anything themselves these days.

French distributor Carlotta has launched Carlotta USA. They will acquire films for repertory release. I assume they'll find an existing distributor to partner with for physical media. (Criterion, Kino, who knows?)carax09 wrote:Fingers definitely crossed over here, Ian. I'm hoping to hear some good news on this front, sometime before I'm relegated to an eldercare facility, where all anyone ever wants to watch is Cocoon, over and over.ianungstad wrote:Restorations of Mauvais Sang and Boy Meets Girl are set to debut at NYFF in a few weeks. On home video; these were Fox Lorber titles that have been long unavailable. Janus has picked up most of the Lorber library. Wouldn't be surprised if they grabbed these Leo Carax titles for eventual release.
Their initial rollout for 2014 includes the two Carax titles and Sidewalk Stories (Charles Lane).

You shouldn't ever hope for Tootsie to be announced.FrauBlucher wrote:Moe, I hope CC puts a smile on your face tomorrow.Moe Dickstein wrote:That's probably it Frau Blucher *whinnny*

Re: When does Criterion announce new titles?
I hope when they release that the extras are just a drunken Terri Garr laughing about how sexist Hoffman and Pollack were.

If drunken Teri Garr is going to enter the collection, it needs to be Dick!

True, but in that case we would need an in-character commentary for Dan Hedaya.

I am entirely certain that I could record a track of me reciting the film word for word from memory

Oh we should all hope for Tootsie - if you haven't heard the commentary from the Criterion LD it's a master class in developing story structure from chaos and random ideas, as well as in Pollack's style.FakeBonanza wrote:You shouldn't ever hope for Tootsie to be announced.FrauBlucher wrote:Moe, I hope CC puts a smile on your face tomorrow.Moe Dickstein wrote:That's probably it Frau Blucher *whinnny*
But if we see Tootsie, that will just be gravy to the one I'm talking about.

Re: Criterion on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube
For me Madx4 World is an unfunny novelty, but Tootsie definitley has some strong merits, and therefore has a place in the annals of 1980s American Cinema that came out of the studios.Moe Dickstein wrote:Oh we should all hope for Tootsie - if you haven't heard the commentary from the Criterion LD it's a master class in developing story structure from chaos and random ideas, as well as in Pollack's style.FakeBonanza wrote:You shouldn't ever hope for Tootsie to be announced.FrauBlucher wrote:Moe, I hope CC puts a smile on your face tomorrow.

Re: When does Criterion announce new titles?
Tootsie is a superb film - in fact, I remember it opening amid widespread predictions that it would be a disaster (didn't something like 32 writers have some input into the script?), only for words to be eaten en masse when critics actually got to see the finished article.

Re: When does Criterion announce new titles?
I do remember the over whelming critical acclaim it received upon it's release. Especially, for Hoffman.

I wonder how much of Elaine May's writing made it to the end? I'm tempted to think she made it something.

I think Criterion are waiting for the approval of the Tea Party to announce their January lineup.
