NSFW redband trailer for David Gordon Green's The Sitter. Has anyone ever had a more bizarre or disappointing career trajectory than this guy?

Ritchie, though I like his most recent films even if it's in a different way from his earlier stuff.

God almighty that was three and three quarter minutes of sheer torture. White people so crazy jokes? Saying naughty things to kids jokes? Tired gay jokes? Really? I don't even know what was worse, the actual trailer or the introduction. Sad to see Ari Graynor in this, as she was the only thing about Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist that didn't make me want to blind myself.

So that whole film is going to be wide shots of the kids followed by close ups of Jonah Hill doing the hardcore swearing, presumably whilst the kids were out of earshot?

Anyway it looks as if The Sitter will have a hard time competing with the high water mark of the genre (the only good Chris Columbus film?)

If a kid ends up scaling a glass-walled building in this one, it's only to set up a wacky shot of some babe rubbing her rack on the window

On the upside, it appears Jonah has lost a lot of charm, I mean weight.

If, like me, you're still interested in this and it never played near you, the Blu will be coming in November.

Closest comp I can think of is Wayne Wang making J-Lo and Queen Latifah movies, though I'm not even personally a fan of Wang's earlier "quality" work.

Or Gregg Araki going from Mysterious Skin to Smiley Face? Disclaimer: I've actually not yet seen Smiley Face, but it seems to have a Pineapple Express stoner vibe to it (and domino, it looks as if it has Roscoe Lee Browne in it, albeit just as a voiceover!)

Though he has apparently salvaged things with Kaboom, which I have yet to see.

Smiley Face is great. A much stronger case could be made for it being the rebound after the dire Splendor in terms of Araki trying fluffy comedy again.

As for David Gordon Green, Pineapple Express was a godsend after the self-parodic tripe that was Snow Angels. If that's all he had left of his "style", then keep up the 80s pastiche, please

That's good to know :)

I've actually just ordered it (along with Kaboom and the new Peccadillo edition of Totally F***ed Up, though of course with certain warehouse-being-burnt-down-during-rioting problems those films may take a while to arrive!)

I'll second the Smiley Face love which was my introduction to Araki and I feel is one of his better films. Admittedly though you have to appreciate that sort of humour to really love it.

I would rather watch Snow Angels again than even just the trailer for the Sitter, and I would not want to watch Snow Angels again

What if it was just a freezeframe of Olivia Thirlby looking adorable?

That's the only way you'd ever get me in the same room with The Wackness again.

Why have I not heard of Redland till now? Looks absolutely extraordinary. Brings to mind a wide range of only the best influences: Malick ,of course, hangs heavy here but also evident in spirit is Konchalovsky's exquisite rural melodrama Shy People, Chris Munch's Ansel Adams inspired mood piece Color of a Brisk and Leaping Day, Jon Jost's rural ambient cinema (especially his magisterial The Bed You Sleep In) and even the ominous tones of Grandrieux's Un Lac. A remarkably sustained atmosphere to say the very least established in just these few minutes of this trailer.

I actually got in touch with director Asiel Norton via Facebook. He was really cool and appreciative of the support. He told me the film would finally hit DVD by the end of this year (it was shot in '08 and has had only minimal fest exposure since). More info and stellar reviews at the film's official site. I think we may be seeing the start of a possibly brilliant career. Let's hope.

I didn't know that The Rum Diary was going to be PG family film. The trailer certainly feels like that.
