MGM is just following the course of not repressing pressed discs. No matter how tempting some titles appear, very very few of the MGM OOPs are Criterion fodder, especially since some of us have seen the "secret" list of initial MGM acquisitions. If Criterion wanted to put out a Kramer box, it would likely pair the MGM titles of the Defiant Ones, Judgment at Nuremberg, and On the Beach (all OOP I believe)-- 5000 Fingers is Sony and they don't mix studios in boxes. That said, I can tell you no Kramer titles are on the known list of MGM properties Criterion's licensed, but who knows

Criterion has mixed studios in box sets. The Paul Robeson set, Postwar Kurosawa, etc. But to have "5000 Fingers Of Dr. T" on Bluray from Crite, wow.

Guys and Dolls and The Pride of the Yankees have gone OOP because they are part of the Samuel Goldwyn Library, which is now licensed to Warner.

Lowry_Sam wrote:(unlike what Criterion did to If.... & Salo which were censored versions even in their upgrades to blu).
Salò wasn't "censored" as such - no-one's been able to come up with a good explanation of where the additional shot in the BFI print came from. Certainly, the cut camera negative at Technicolor in Rome conforms to the Criterion version.

Let's face it, if you're minded to censor Salò, you'd have to cut out most of the film before you considered that shot to be problematic!

The Harold Lloyd R2 box seems to be OOP and fetching big prices. Glad I snatched it while it was £9 a few months ago.

The Harold Llyod estate recently inked a deal with mk2 to handle worldwide distribution. All these films will probably be reissued in new editions from new companies in the near future. Wouldn't be surprised if Criterion picked these up for North America. New Line box went out of print a few years back.

I remember reading Park Circus got the UK rights. (They also have the Chaplin rights)

Yes, I also got the UK box for less than 9 quid for 9 discs. A near steal.

I've just updated the BFI Master Index with reference to the latest printed BFI catalogue, and note that Ken Loach's The Navigators and Jean Genet's Un Chant d'Amour are no longer in it.

No great surprise: they were very early BFI DVDs.

Which version of French Connection, the original one or the recent improvement?

Since Wall Street also had a crummy original release like the French Connection, I bet it's just those initial discs

I think the reissues that came out in March are still Best Buy exclusives, so they aren't widely available yet.

Besides the recent reissues of The French Connection and Wall Street, Spaceballs is getting a new anniversary Blu-ray with a new transfer and supplements in a few weeks. Maybe Drums Along the Mohawk is getting a deluxe Blu too or has been licensed to someone?

According to MMM it looks like Image discontinued most of their Paul Morrissey titles this week. I wonder if they're letting the rights lapse? I would be up for Criterion releasing Women in Revolt and Flesh/Trash/Heat. They could also bring Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula back in print.

I'm hoping that Fellini Satyricon and The Entertainer have been picked up by Criterion for future release.

Both were Criterion LD releases back in the 90s.

I wonder how interested Criterion is in Fellini films anymore, aside from the most obvious ones: 8 1/2, Amarcord, and perhaps a future blu upgrade for La Strada.

If nothing else, it looked very much like one of the listings on that desk full of forthcoming titles Facebook picture said 'Fellini's Satyricon'.

They're ramping up their "signature series" and "studio classics" lines or whatever they're called, and those both look like obvious candidates for releases under one of those banners down the line.
