Pelham has no original mono audio. The fucked up audio was referring to Manchurian, the missing OG audio to Pelham.

For what it's worth, a few of the Kino MGM titles already have UK 4Ks that Criterion probably won't top (i.e. Paths of Glory, The Great Escape, Dressed to Kill).

1.85:1 is the correct AR for The Night of the Hunter and for 12 Angry Men

Paths of Glory and The Killing should both also be in 1.85:1, but the recent restorations still have those two wrong.

And just for reference, 1.37:1 is indeed the correct AR for Killer's Kiss.

Huh interesting. I knew 1.85:1 was correct for 12 Angry Men but I didn't know Night of the Hunter was also in 1.85:1

So Criterion actually got the aspect ration wrong on The Night of the Hunter and Kino got it right?

And all HD and UHD editions of The Killing and Paths of Glory are also incorrect then? I guess I'll hold off on the MoC Paths of Glory just in case someone releases it in the correct ratio.

It's not MGM, but I wonder if Criterion will get Last Year At Marienbad back too or if I should just breakdown and get the Kino.

My friend don't settle for that. Studiocanal themselves may release a 4k if anything

Unless a subsequent transfer of “Marienbad” gets an HDR pass, there’s nothing wrong with the Kino edition in my opinion.

This came from the other forum
More Intel from their head of production

High and Low 4k coming to coincide with the Spike Lee remake

Many box sets in the works

Titles on laser disc are getting new upgrades

Apple and Amazon have absolutely no interest in working with them and she specifically said they want to do Killers of the Flower Moon and Nickel Boys but won't be able to

seems legit since the user is in Austin with the mobile Criterion Closet. High and Low 4K would've happened even without Spike, but glad to have confirmation we don't have to wait long, since I know many of us held off on the BFI edition

I'll try and compile a decent guess list of the laserdiscs, as there's a lot of possibilities there. obviously stuff like Singin' in the Rain and It's a Wonderful Life won't happen, but plenty of others could

what I'm really intrigued by is Amazon in that statement. Amazon had no problems at all working with Criterion before. what changed? we figured Apple wouldn't play ball (not surprised) but what's changed over at Amazon? do they suddenly hate making money? they have no problem licensing out MGM titles

I love the Gary Giddins commentary on Paths of Glory, for the longest time it was easily the best track on any Kubrick movie. definitely an instance of owning both, since the MOC is pretty definitive and has Adrian Martin

Maybe the Kinuyo Tanaka set and the Bollywood box are included in those box sets.

High and Low makes sense.

Apple and Amazon are assholes.

Maybe Zulu, Boogie Nights, She’s Gotta Have It, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, English Patient, and King Kong are the laserdisc titles

If this extends to catalogue titles that’s concerning not just for Criterion but other labels too if they go the Disney route.
So far, I’m not sure there has been any boutique physical release of an Amazon MGM production. Shout’s Bones and All from 2022 still was part of the old MGM. I guess we’ll have see if there’s gonna be a release of Saltburn at some point this year to get a better idea of where this is going.

A big box set I can imagine is a Truffaut 4K set. They’ve been sitting on the Doniel restorations and many other of his films were also restored in the meantime. Now that MK2 got Truffaut’s former MGM titles back too makes this quite likely IMO.

Definitely not Holy Grail as Shout has home video rights now for the Monty Python films while Boogie Nights is getting a Warner 4K this year. I think the only confirmed titles that Criterion haven’t released yet are She’s Gotta Have It, The English Patient, the late Truffauts, and the 30s Hitchcocks

Totally forgot about the upcoming Warner 4K lol.

I thought they only had the rights to Meaning of Life but checked again and it looks like they do. Hopefully they hurry those releases up.

Why Has Bodhi Dharma… would be a great collaboration with Milestone. I wish both cuts and its filmmaker’s sole other feature would be released as a set

Did they confirm the 30s Hitchcocks? I'd love those, but it seems more like what Criterion released fifteen years ago rather than now. Still surprising that a masterpiece like Young and Innocent has never made it to Blu-ray in the US.

Dead Presidents still seems like a no brainer. I watched it for the first time in twenty years fairly recently and was surprised that it was much better than I recall.

Dead Presidents would be a no brainer if Disney wasn’t so stingy about licensing. I doubt they’re making huge money off of titles from the Hollywood Pictures library (or Touchstone or Buena Vista) at this point so why not take Criterion’s money for the licenses? I’m sure Criterion would snap up Presidents (and Evita, also a laserdisc title) happily along with some others.

Ah well. The allure of the vault I guess. Not that I’ll ever understand.

Sad that even Scorsese doesn’t have the clout to get Apple to license his film for physical media.

Fingers crossed for a Scaramouche 4K UHD!

I would love to finally see West Side Story, Forbidden Planet, Lolita, Jason and the Argonauts, Darling, The Entertainer, Burn & Carnal Knowledge back in the collection. Maybe one or two will actually return.

There’s probably zero chance that Last Tango in Paris, Annie Hall or Crimes and Misdemeanors will ever return.

Letter from an Unknown Woman has already been rumored as returning, as well as Adam’s Rib and Bad Day at Black Rock.

The Entertainer is with Janus so a Criterion edition is probably a good bet… some day.
