Re: Second Sight Films (UK)
In reality, I ordered them both at the same time to cut down on shipping, so the one available latest (The Witch) determined when they both dispatched from SS. Glad they were reliable and hung onto that copy of Drive if it's since sold out!

Yeah, but objective context is often useless in the face of subjective experience. With Hawke relating the latter as a cause for something, there’s nothing disingenous about that.therewillbeblus wrote: Fri Jul 22, 2022 4:27 pmI meant it was disingenuous on Hawke's part, or how the articles I'm reading are contextualizing his quote. I mean, I agree with your first sentence, but Hawke is an objective party diagnosing Weir’s subjective experience as the truth of what happened to him. There’s a difference between Weir saying that himself and Hawke stating it as objective, which is how I’m reading the context of his statement.

Given that I’ve no interest in reading an indiewire article, I’ll take your word for it.
I wasn’t talking about the truth of Ethan Hawke’s statement, but about the possibility of it being true, based on my own experience.
Which is why I suggested you maybe misunderstood my original post.

Right, I acknowledged that and zoomed out to say why Hawke wouldn’t be in a position to declare that subjectivity, multiple times. We’re saying two different things but we’re agreeing on the subjectivity piece, and apparently now the objectivity one too(?!) and yet despite those agreements you came back to say Hawke wasn’t being disingenuous, not reading it in the context I’m talking about it in and now essentially saying Fine But So What. I have no idea what we are even doing here, but I think you’ve misunderstood my posts too. Let’s agree to.. agree, I guess?

I think the problem is that it felt like your posts were responding to what I’m saying, by talking about something very different. I understand what you’re talking about, I just don’t understand why you’re doing so in response to my post. Anyway…

FYI The standard UHD is still listed on Rarewaves for the standard price, actually slightly discounted from when I bought it upon release!swo17 wrote: Fri Jul 22, 2022 9:19 pm Drive is of course completely sold out already though, even the standard edition UHD

For some reason I was under the impression Second Sight were using IOSS for EU orders, only to get an unexpected surprise that I had to declare and pay taxes on top of the full price I paid to SS. Oh well, another independent British distributor I cannot support by ordering directly anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can you order directly from Arrow, Indicator, and Eureka without any hiccups if you're in the EU? I know BFI don't ship at all to the EU.

I believe all three declare IOSS but I'd email them to confirm.

Re: Second Sight Films (UK)
I can definitely confirm that this is the case with Indicator, as I did order during the last sale several discs into the EU and had no problem receiving the package without having to pay additional taxes or fees.rrenault wrote: Fri Jul 29, 2022 1:37 pm Can you order directly from Arrow, Indicator, and Eureka without any hiccups if you're in the EU? I haven’t tried the other two yet.

I've read where Arrow can be pretty hit or miss. If they miss, you may get them to refund you the extra charges, but that can take a lot of back and forth with their customer "support" and might not happen at all depending on which "support" droids end up "helping" you. I've also read where replacement discs have been hit with import charges and fees in some cases… Maybe they've gotten better at it by now???

Well, this is what I got. First, order details from Second Sight which clearly states it is shipped to EU and the prices included tax. Then the order arrives with commercial invoice which clearly states I have to pay taxes and duties.

Same story with Arrow and Zavvi orders, nothing has come through IOSS.

The BFI shop has actually started shipping to the EU a few weeks ago.

Yep, quite a few orders from Arrow came to me without IOSS, including the Henry replacement disc. To add insult to injury, I had made one order of 5 or 6 items and they all shipped them separately, only for me to get hit with customs + flat fees on each. ](*,) Fought with their customer service that first claimed they sent everything with IOSS (I documented they had not) but eventually gave in and told me they had made a refund. Never saw that on my credit card statement, and I gave up at some point when they didn't get back to me with requested transaction IDs.fdm wrote: Fri Jul 29, 2022 7:27 pm I've read where Arrow can be pretty hit or miss. My most recent order from them, however, came with IOSS perfectly in place. Maybe they finally got it?! I will get more data points very soon, more things are on the way from their shop.

I also got hit with taxes and fees from Second Sight, twice. They told me to complain with my postal service, but that was obviously to no avail because SS hadn't used IOSS...eerik wrote: Fri Jul 29, 2022 8:23 pm Well, this is what I got. Which Arrow discs have required replacements? I know there were issues with Dune.

Dune looked great- I see it’s not on the list, but did I miss something?

Re: Second Sight Films (UK)
Seems like it was specifically related to the steelbook edition. Not sure how I can test for this when I don’t have a UHD player…
Arrow wrote:We have now concluded that the issue is not with the authoring of the [UHD] disc itself, but rather the way it was packed into the steelbook during the manufacturing process, which in a minority of instances have resulted in subtle scratches on the disc that cause playback issues on some UHD players.

Second Sight have added standard UHD and BD editions of The Guest and a limited edition of Bull, all dated for September 26, to their pre-order page.

Wouldn’t go out of your way to panic buy - they update the titles of their releases on their site when titles go truly OOP. They probably hit the end of the current stock and don’t want to leave orders up for people that might have to wait weeks for more to be ready.

Re: Second Sight Films (UK)
On the other hand, it's not unheard of for their LEs to sell out this fast, and the US Blu-ray is OOP and pricey, so demand for this title could have been higher than usual
