my general rule of thumb at this point for Criterion UHDs is if I have the Bluray already and there's a known superior or equal to, there's no reason for me to get the Criterion upgrade. they keep all the features and packaging as is anyway. I'm sure the discs are still good, but the region B edition allows for some differences

I say this but I did go Criterion over Curzon for Wings of Desire

Paris, Texas 4K pulsing brightness

#77 Post by anoutsos »

I have just received my copy of Criterion's Paris, Texas 4K (released in 12/2024), and I noticed that in two or three scenes (in the sofa area of the laundrette and in the booth conversation) the dark parts of the picture have a pulsating brightness. I have not transitioned to 4K yet, so I was only able to play the blu-ray. Does anyone else have the same experience? Is the blu-ray from the same master as the 4K disc? If so, should I expect to see this issue also on the 4K disc? Finally, is this considered a defect or an artefact of the re-mastering/scanning process?
Thank you
