This has been referred to in earlier screening reports as a vaguely related prologue attached to the film. I guess he decided to separate it as a short. Hopefully, it will still be attached to the commercial prints when they roll out. I'm pretty sure that those 12 minutes are the extent of Portman's involvement.souvenir wrote:At the NYFF, Anderson seems to have a 12-minute short called Hotel Chevalier screening alongside The Darjeeling Limited.

Thanks for the link. I had never heard of the Anderson/Kael "controversy", so this was an interesting read.Steven H wrote:There's more about that old controversy here.David Ehrenstein wrote:All the other critics were horrified by his loucheness. But I couldn't stop laughing.

Wow! Talk about awkward. It's all anyone will want to talk about if Anderson or anyone else does promotion for the film.Jeff wrote:It gets worse. I've heard that the bandages worn by Wilson's character in the film are the result of a botched suicide attempt. If that's true, I wouldn't be surprised to see the film get shelved for awhile.

From a long time ago or recently? If the claims are that he tried to commit suicide previous to filming, and they covered it up with bandages, it seems like a lot of hot air to me. It seems unlikely that Wes Anderson would ignore the health of a longtime friend and collaborator just to shoot a film.Jeff wrote:It gets worse. Anyway, I'm a huge Owen Wilson fan and this is pretty sad stuff to hear. I really hope the claims of suicide aren't true. If anything, the signs point to an overdose (Owen is known as quite the partyer) of some kind but perhaps that's just wishful thinking.

this is like an Abott and Costello routine.
The poster was not saying that Wilson had attempted to commit suicide previously in real life before the filming of the new Anderson film, only after filming was completed. However, the irony is that the character in the film wears bandages because of an attempted suicide.
So, to be clear, Wilson only tried to kill himself once, after the film was completed; the character only tried to kill himself once, inside the film; and so there should be no more confusion from anyone, on the board.
