Why do Hal Ashby films all get shunted with the bare bones releases.

He's so great, its such a shame he doesn't have a single-box retrospective of his best 70's works.

Yeah, you can always trust Solaris, but you can't always trust ezydvd. Here are the links.

No mention of HD, two discs or anything.....

Also, ezy has 4 disc Ben Hur for $8 at the moment, quite good if you don't already own it. If you don't want the 1959 film, the 1925 film is on disc 3, well worth the 8 bucks.

Ben Hur isn't available from ezydvd anymore, and if it was it would be $35.

Also, any word on a Hal Ashby collection?

I doubt a Hal Ashby collection will be released as the films that have been released on R4 all have different distributers.

It's a shame Ben Hur is no longer available, I'm glad I snagged one of their last copies.

Sadly, from all reports, Umbrella's August release of Paul Cox's gentle masterpiece Lonely Hearts will be full screen, not the original widescreen print. It's been correctly available in the US on MGM for some years now. Odd, considering Cox and John Clarke are interviewed on the disc as well.

Paramount have listed Twin Peaks: The Complete Mystery for November. Wellman's Wings and Mann's Strategic Air Command look set for December.

This better be the same as the upcoming R1 set, as Paramount really screwed up the last R4 Twin Peaks release. The latest rumours are that the extras are being put together (for the R1 set) by the same guy who did the extras for the Alien quadrilogy, and some of the extras have been directed by Lynch himself.

Some interesting upcoming releases from MRA:
Notorious and Spellbound "widescreen editions"!
Four disc Otto Preminger collection
Three disc Roman Polanski collection (most likely a re-release of the current set)

Universal seem to be starting a 'Marlene Dietrich Collection' line of DVDs. Sadly it seems to start and end with the September release of, drum roll please....Pittsburgh. Again, we have Alan Jones to thank for this $9.95 release.

Ezy have these undetailed Roadshow items listed for November 7: ESSENTIAL MIKE LEIGH (3 disc) [same as R1?] & two 10 disc sets called THE CLASSIC AUSTRALIAN COLLECTION VOLS. 1 & 2 [Rehashes? @ $119 comes to $11.90 a disc].

One would like to see a better quality Polanski box (like the R2) but I'll bet its the same version out now. I picked this box up for $10 the other day. The two UK films are OK but the version of KNIFE looks like a VHS copy of the SBS version as detailed on Michael's DVD review.

Speaking of exclusive releases, JBs currently has the new re-release of Taxi Driver as an exclusive. Happily all the features appear to be the same as the R1 release.

I have badly wanted to see this film for about 12 years, but a 2.35:1 copy has never been available on home video.
