Here are some early stills from filming of Drew Barrymore as Little Edith.

Hmm...I don't recall Little Edith looking that scrubbed, made up and with perfect hair.

She could possibly be filming scenes as a young Edie. She was quite a looker back in the day, and the cupid's bow lipstick and bathing costume would indicate the the earlier part of the 20th century.

That's true. I guess I was thrown by the overgrown field she's walking around in and my immediate reaction was that it was another case of Hollywood making sure a lead actress didn't appear too "ugly".

Yes, it looks like the younger Edie just prior to total retirement from the world. Drew has Edie's stance and facial expression down pat. Looking forward to this.

Here's an EPK for the new Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange vehicle. The film will cover the years leading to the girls' downfall.

Well there's a project I would never in a million years have thought of.

It was a shame to see the level of schmaltz in the trailer, because (and I may be committing blasphemy here) - this is a great idea for a film. But the amount of catharsis and hugging and tears of joy in the trailer had me rolling my eyes already.

If only the planet en masse could figure out how to deal with Edie-like figures when they're alive, rather than cuddle to their hearts the lovably-quirky hypersimplified images they keep with them after they've died. I do think it was nice, however, that she had some chance to discover how much some people truly genuinely loved & understood her, while she was alive.

Very well said, HerrSchreck.

One of the rare and breathing beauties of the documentary is that the Edies were not reduced or explained away, we only get glimpses of their past, presented only by them and no one else. The musical and the HBO movie seem to be more interested in their past and the reasoning for their withdrawal from the society, you know, the trivia and all.

The images in that trailer feel like a lie. If there was ever a family that I could imagine never in their lives hugging and weeping, it's the Beales.

I get this sense that there's something fishy about thegreyguard and that post he wrote.

Criterion and MOC must be happy about this. A nice way to bump the sale of a back-catalogue title.

Certainly can't hurt.
